Beyoncé Talks At-Home Beauty Treatments, Makeup Tricks, and Stealing Her Mother’s Perfume

When Allure recently spoke with Beyoncé, she mentioned that her latest fragrance, Heat Rush, is meant to “remind you of sunshine”. Allure asked B to shed some sunlight on her favorite beauty products, what it’s like to give people a fragrance bottle with your name on it, and that rite of passage every young woman goes through: stealing her mother’s perfume.

How often do you wear fragrance? “Every day. I put it on as soon as I get out of the shower. I wear it onstage, in the studio, on dates.”

How many fragrances do you own?
“I’m very loyal. I find one and wear it for years. I wear Heat and Heat Rush—I really do! It was important to me that they work for all occasions because I don’t like to switch up. I like to have a signature scent so that when I walk past, everyone knows it’s me. My mother always wore the same fragrance [when I was a kid] and every time I smell it, I think of her.”

What perfume is that?
“She wore 273. I remember it was the first thing that I wore because I used to steal it from her!”

I used to steal my mom’s Liz Claiborne! Do you have any particular scent memories attached to 273?
“Yes. I kind of put that fragrance together with stilettos—because I would smell it and hear her footsteps on the hardwood floor.”

When you have your own perfumes, does everyone you know get them as gifts? Who have you given Heat Rush to?
“All of my family. It’s funny because I don’t like to give my own CD to all of my friends—it feels a little strange. But I gave Heat and Heat Rush to all of my nieces and my extended family. A lot of them were like, ‘You better give us those fragrances! Because we don’t want to have to buy them!’”

What at-home beauty treatment do you find most relaxing?
“There’s a scrub by Carol’s Daughter—Ocean Sea Salt Scrub—it feels like the beach and it has the most beautiful scent. I’m always rushing, and this scrub is moisturizing, so it cuts out a step for me because I don’t have to completely cover myself with lotion.”

What’s your must-have beauty product?
“I love the Rosebud Salve in the blue can. [Ed note: It's Smith's!] I wear it with my lipstick. I did this trick last summer, when I was on vacation: I used it to prime my lashes before curling. It was like a natural mascara. It made the lashes hold the curl and look shiny. I use it for everything! And I love [L'Oréal] Elnett hairspray. It’s very light and holds whatever hairstyle you want.”  CONTINUE READING!! More »

Beauty From The Inside Out

You are what you eat, right? Well, that goes double for your skin, hair and nails. The editors of Women’s Health magazine break down the best foods found in your local supermarket to help you stay glowing and gorgeous all year long!

Dark Chocolate: The sweet stuff contains high levels of potent antioxidants that can help protect your skin from sun damage as well as amp up blood flow to your tissues which will in turn keep skin nourished and glowing. You want to find chocolate that is at least 70 percent cacao because it contains more antioxidants.

Spinach: Being a powerhouse of vital nutrients and vitamins A, these leafy greens help fight inflammation and wrinkles. Also, it’s loaded with an antioxidant called lutein, which helps eyes stay healthy and bright.

Tomatoes: Whether this fruit is sliced, diced or stewed, it helps protect against damage from the sun and other environmental factors thanks to its key ingredient, the antioxidant lycopene. You can eat one serving of tomatoes a day with a drizzle of olive oil, a splash of vinaigrette or a slice of avocado.

Edamame: This soy bean can ease inflammation and stave off collagen breakdown, leaving skin with a more even tone as well as fewer wrinkles. Toss half a cup of boiled edamame into a salad or a pasta dish; one serving per day is both safe and helpful.

Walnuts: Eating just one ounce of walnuts by themselves or in your salad will supply you with your daily dose of nutrients that are responsible for smoother skin, healthier hair and stronger bones. Other top nuts include pistachios, almonds and hazelnuts.

VANESSA HUDGENS GET THE LOOK – NEUTROGENA SUCKER PUNCH PREMIERE 3.23.11

Celebrity Make-up Artist Karan Mitchell created the following look for Vanessa Hudgens
:

For the Sucker Punch premiere in Hollywood Vanessa Hudgens chose a gorgeous grey Jenny Packham dress with intricate beading. She wanted her make-up to reflect the glamorous style of the late Elizabeth Taylor.

We started the look by refreshing and cleansing the skin with Neutrogena Make-up Remover Cleaning Towelettes.

I began with the eyes by using Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector in Medium as a base for her eye shadow. I chose the lightest shade from the Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Quad – Butter Creme blending from the crease to the brow as a highlight. I then blended the same shade on to the eyelid. I used the soft shell color from the palette in the crease. I then lined along the above lash and inside the eye with the Nourishing Eyeliner in Cosmic Black. I applied individual lashes and then added two coats of Healthy Lengths Mascara in Carbon Black.

For her skin we used Neutrogena Healthy Skin Compact Make-up in Warm Beige. The concealer under the eye was Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector in Medium. To set the foundation I used Healthy Skin Powder in Medium. For her cheeks and her temples and chin, I used the Healthy Skin Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer Duo in Posie Glow for a subtle contour. I then blended the Mineral Sheers Blush in Rare Rose on the apples of her cheeks for a soft flush of color.

For the lips I began with the new Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm in Fresh Plum and finished with MoistureShine Gloss in Wine Wellness.
