How To Winterize Your Beauty Routine.

Hope you had a lovely weekend! Cold winter weather can have damaging and negative effects on skin, making it important to “winterize” your regular beauty routine to avoid dry, chapped, flaky skin. Author, blogger and “DIY” beauty expert Erika Katz (author of Bonding Over Beauty -more information on Erika below) would like to share with you her favorite beauty tips for gorgeous winter weather skin. Here they are, below!

  • Exfoliate skin once per week with an exfoliating sugar scrub. Click here to see how to make it. For dry hands, rub a rich moisturizer all over (Erika recommends Shea Butter creams) then wrap your hands in a warm wet wash cloth. The heat will help hands retain the moisture. You can also wear gloves. This is great when you are watching TV.
  • Before bed, use a rich night cream with an oil base. In the winter we need creams with oil not water. Water freezes on the skin and does not give it the proper moisture. Each day after the shower before skin is dry, rub baby oil all over your body to seal in moisture.
  • For feet, rub moisturizer on dry feet, then put on warm sock. You can warm your socks in the dryer or microwave.
  • For chapped lips, brush lips with a toothbrush to remove dead skin. Then, rub lips with vitamin e oil. If you have A&D ointment left over from the baby, which is actually great for chapped lips too.

Avon and Estée Lauder under fire as Peta reveals cosmetic brands ‘ordered animal testing’

PETA has lashed out at Avon and Estee Lauder after finding the cosmetic companies are paying for animal testing. The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals announced on their website today that the skincare companies are no longer “cruelty-free” because they are being forced to follow regulations enforced by the Chinese government.

According to PETA, Mary Kay was also included in the list of companies that “harm animals” in the Asian country.

British brand Avon, who recently hired Alesha Dixon as the face, branded the claims ‘misleading’ but admit they are forced to conduct testing in China due to health laws.

A spokesperson said: ‘Some select products may be required by law in a few countries to undergo additional safety testing, which potentially includes animal testing, under the directive of a government or health agency.

‘In these instances, Avon will first attempt to persuade the requesting authority to accept non-animal test data.

‘When those attempts are unsuccessful, Avon must abide by local laws and submit the products for additional testing. In 2011, this affected three tenths of one percent of Avon’s products.’

‘There have been some incorrect and misleading claims made by animal rights organisations. Avon neither conducts nor requests animal testing.’

Estée Lauder have yet to comment.

Both brands have been ‘cruelty-free’ for two decades following campaigns by Peta in the late 80′s.

Does this new revelation by PETA make you want to stop using the brands? Does it affect your decision making?

Introducing: NEOSPORIN Essentials

My kids all suffer from sensitive skin, and I am always looking for products to help combat their dry, itchy skin. I love the new NEOSPORIN Essentials kit, the 3 pieces work together to get my kids skin soft, smooth and itch free.

The Daily Wash is so gentle and helps cure those post bathing itches. I follow up  bath time with the Daily Moisturizing cream and within days, most of the little dry patches my youngest had are gone. For the occasional extra dry patch I use the Anti-Itch cream it keeps them from scratching and creating a bigger problem.

NEOSPORIN Essentials

As you may know, eczema is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition characterized by dry, itchy skin and visible skin rash. Over 35 million Americans, both children and adults, suffer from eczema. The prevalence of eczema has increased nearly 400% over the past 30 years and is projected to continue to increase due to environmental and other factors such as stress.

Despite its prevalence, finding an effective solution that truly treats and heals eczema-prone skin is a common frustration of sufferers. This is particularly difficult because eczema not only causes physical discomfort, but can also be emotionally draining as it impacts every aspect of life – what you wear, what temperature your room should be, etc.

To help eczema sufferers regain healthier looking skin, NEOSPORIN®—the trusted brand that’s been healing and restoring compromised skin for over 50 years—is introducing NEOSPORIN® Essentials™, a skincare line designed for people with eczema. To create this product line, the brand conducted extensive research and clinical studies to better understand how eczema works and how it can be treated. As a result of these efforts, the Daily Moisturizing Cream has been proven to restore visibly healthier skin in three days.

Kendall Jenner considering skipping college to become a model.

Kendall Jenner is looking to make it big in the modelling world. One thing she’s willing to put on hold for the time being is college.

“I’m not really thinking about college right now,”Jenner, 16, told PEOPLE Monday while trying on dresses at Rent the Runway‘s Pop-up Shop at West Hollywood’s Andaz Hotel.“If my career, like, blows up and gets really big, [modeling] is what I would do.”

Though we’ve seen Kim Kardashian‘s younger sis struggle with her nerves while walking the runway onKeeping Up With the Kardashians, Jenner says those initial jitters are all in the past.

“I want to [walk the runway] again and again,”she said.“It was so much fun, like the adrenaline and everything was really fun.”

The budding fashionista, who calls her own style “edgy [and] girly, but colorful,” shared some of her own style tips and influences.

“I like to add color… and I think that heels make the outfit look 10 times better,” said Jenner, who often “raids” sister Kourtney‘s closet.“I love Hervé Léger dresses just because I love bandage dresses … [and] I love jumpers.”

As for showing skin both on and off the runway, the teen believes less is more.

“I think if you look cute but like, classy, even though you are showing skin, I think that’s fine,”she said.“I wouldn’t like, go crazy. I am not that kind of a person.”

What would you think of your daughter wanted to put a hold on college to further her modelling career? What would you say?
