Gee, you don’t say! (How do I get myself on the list to be a test dummy for this study!)
Apparently, the geniuses over at The Agence France-Press conducted two experiments that prove the more alcohol you think you’ve had in a day will increase how you view your appearance – even if you haven’t been drinking.
The Agence France-Presse reports the scientists conducted one experiment in a local bar where 19 people were asked to assess their attractiveness on a scale of one to seven. Their alcohol levels were then measured, and the results were pretty interesting: the higher the amount of booze that was drunk, the higher the self-confidence of the testee.
But what’s even more interesting is what happened in phase two.
The scientists asked 94 men to taste-test a new fruit cocktail and deliver a filmed message. The testers told the volunteers that half would be given an alcoholic version and the others would be given a placebo.
Those who believed they had drunk alcohol gave themselves high self-assessments, regardless of whether they had actually ingested any booze, while those who had believed they hadn’t had a sip of alcohol gave themselves a low assessment, even when there had been a hefty amount of liquor in their drinks. So, basically, believing is feeling! Said lead psychologist Laurent Begue:
“Our study shows that the mere fact of believing that you have drunk alcohol makes you feel more attractive. The alcohol dose has no effect in itself.”
So, why is it that we feel sexier with a glass of wine in our hands? According to the article, it’s “alcohol-related expectancy,” meaning the more we drink, the hotter we think we are, because we’re more at ease with others:
“The concept of alcohol is linked to social lubrication, to making you feel at ease with others.”
Well, we’re not sure whether to cheers to that or not (we most likely will!). What do you think?
Here is a new picture of Tori Spelling with her husband Dean, and her new baby girl, Hattie.
Two weeks ago she announced that she is pregnant with her fourth baby! I didn’t even think this was possible – considering she had just given birth to daughter Hattie on October 10, 2011, but it’s true!
Tori is already in her second trimester, which means that Hattie was only 6 weeks old when she got pregnant!
Tori explains that she was in the hospital to treat her migraines, when part of the routine checkup included a pregnancy test. “I had chronic migraines and I was in the emergency room getting treated for one of my migraines and when I got there they said, ‘Before we can treat you, you have to do the pee in the cup.’ And I said, ‘Oh, don’t worry I’m not pregnant. I just had a baby a month ago.’ And they (said), ‘Sorry, it’s policy at the hospital.’ So I did it, and they came back and said, ‘You’re pregnant!’ And I said, ‘That can’t be!’” So how did they take the news that they were pregnant again? “Dean and I kind of sat there in shock for a while and then we said, ‘Well, we wanted four!’ This is when our miracle wanted to come… so we’ll take it.”
Hydro Silk is Schick’s first five-bladed razor for women, each blade is mounted individually for better movement. It also helps reduce irritation and dry skin with a water-activated serum that sits in tiny reservoirs.
This little gem is really an amazing razor. On first try I noticed how easily it glided along my legs and gave me a super close shave much faster than usual. My favorite part of the razor? My clean shave lasts longer! I have been able to double the amount of time between shaves and my skin feels so silky smooth. Definitely stocking up on refills for summer!
After seven years of extensive research, including hundreds of focus groups and testing among thousands of women, Schick® will revolutionize women’s shaving with the introduction of the new Schick Hydro Silk™ razor.
Water-activated moisturizing serum hydrates throughout each shave: The act of shaving is known to strip skin of essential moisture and can leave it dry, dull and irritated. The Schick Hydro Silk™ razor has moisturizing serum that activates with water to help replenish skin’s natural moisture throughout each shave. This advanced lubricating reservoir is more than a reinvention of the traditional lubricating strip – it is a totally re-engineered system to be more effective, delivering soothing lubricating ingredients while hydrating the skin.
5 Curve-Sensing Blades deliver an incredibly close shave: this is Schick’s first 5-blade razor for women and it leverages 7 years of blade technology research to bring women Schick’s closest shave yet. Unlike many of their razors, the Schick Hydro Silk™ razor blades are individually mounted to the cartridge which allows the specially designed blade tips to flow smoothly over a woman’s distinctive skin contours.
Unique Skin Guards help protect skin from irritation: the invention of Skin Guards on the top of each blade–to smooth the skin while shaving, which helps reduce irritation–represents both a completely new approach to achieving closeness and an industry advancement in shaving comfort and irritation reduction. The result is a unique shaving experience that no other women’s shaving system offers.
Compact oval cartridge shape for closeness and hydration in all zones: the unique design was developed to answer consumers’ calls for a razor head that easily fit into sensitive and/or hard to reach areas as well as easily maneuvering around curves and contours.
Beautiful, ergonomic and soft aqueous handle: Recognizing that the design aesthetics are as important as the actual functional purpose that the handle serves, Schick spent two years developing the handle. This is Schick’s most beautiful, feminine handle that is as easy to control and maneuver around curves as it is attractive.
The New Schick Hyrdro Silk Razor is available at drugstores and mass retailers.
A new breakthrough study featured in the latest issue of Allure suggests both topical and oral caffeine use can promote the destruction of UV-damaged skin cells, and can actually reduce our risk of basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer! Another reason to get my daily Americano fix!
There’s increasing evidence that caffeine may help prevent skin cancer. Researchers monitored 112,897 people for more than 20 years, during which time nearly a quarter of them developed the disease. Compared with women who didn’t drink coffee, those who drank more than three cups of caffeinated coffee daily had a 20 percent reduction in the risk of basal cell carcinoma (the most common form of skin cancer and the most prevalent cancer overall). Decaffeinated-coffee drinkers didn’t have decreased risk. Studies in mice have found that both orally ingested and topical caffeine promote the destruction of UV-damaged skin cells and reduce skin-cancer risk, says Fengju Song, an epidemiologist at Harvard School of Public Health. The new study is one of the largest to confirm the link in humans, and it’s the first to show that the effect is specific to basal cell carcinoma, which is diagnosed in about 2 million Americans per year, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

Cheryl looks amazing! Such a beautiful girl and I love all the dresses.
Britain’s sweetheart Cheryl Cole is the 2012 May cover girl for Marie Claire UK and the diva opens up to the magazine about her weight, her love for shoes, on being much more normal than she’s portrayed in tabloids.
Cheryl Cole, who is a slim size 8, says that she does work out but doesn’t follow a diet , instead she tries to make healthy choices. She reveals to Marie Claire that she too suffers from weight fluctuations, but she’s found the perfect trick to help er feel and look comfy regardless if she’s packed a few pounds or shed them by keeping different size jeans in her wardrobe. She tells Marie Claire UK that:
“I’m like any other woman, my weight fluctuates. I have a pair of jeans one size bigger than the other just in case that week I’m a little bit heavier. I work out and try to make healthy choices.”
Ms. Cole, who revealed that she was advised to lose weight back in 2002 after winning the ITV talent shop Popstars: The Rivals, about the same time that she found fame with Girls Aloud, says she avoids dieting ‘like a plague’. She reveals that:
“I try to avoid them like the plague. That can get you into a vicious circle. I did when I was younger. When I first got in the band I remember the first mean story I read where newspapers called us “Pork Stars” – because the show was called Pop Stars: The Rivals. We were all fat… we were all fat! Not fat, chubby. And Louis Walsh had come out publicly and said, ‘They’re all fat. They all need to lose weight.’ And the record label sent us all to have training.”
However, her battle with malaria, which she contacted while on vacation in Tanzania in 2010, and which almost took her life, helped Cheryl switch her priorities. To get back on track after slimming down to a size 6 while battling the disease, Cheryl says she ‘ate everything’ and that ‘it’s now less about work, work, work and more about making time to chill and be with my friends and family’.
Cheryl Cole seems to have discovered her love for shoes for quiet some time and since then developed an addiction. The singer also ventured into the shoe design industry and the line featuring her signature was quite a success. She tells Marie Claire about her shoe addiction that:
“It’s definitely got worse over the years, my shoe thing. Just worse and worse and worse. I should really seek a little bit of therapy. Me doing my own shoe range is quite cathartic.”
Although she’s made headlines with variosu stories regarding her life, Cheryl states that she has quite a normal lifestyle, much different than most people think. She tells the magazine that:
“I’m from such a normal family and background. I’m grateful for that; otherwise it could send you crazy… People have this crazy idea of my life.”
When it comes to regrets, the 28 year old singer says that life is too short to have regrets. Although she’s already gone through a divorce, Cheryl says that she tries to take things as they are.
“Life’s too short to have regrets. Mistakes are life. I don’t live like that. I don’t have that mentality. I think that things are sent to you so you learn and grow. If you regret them, you would never be the person that you are.”
