Melissa McCarthy turned to fashion design when she ran out of plus-size clothes she likes!

Melissa McCarthy has revealed a long struggle with finding clothes to fit her body. She says that two years ago, she was trying to find a designer to create a gown for her, and she was rejected by several big-name designers. She quickly realized the need for more plus-size designers, and took matters into her own hands!

The comedian lands the latest cover of Redbook Magazine, and inside, she opens up about her new clothing venture.

“Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers, very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people, and they all said no.

Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible. It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.

[I] always thought I would design women’s clothing, Then [I] ended up in New York thinking I was going to go to FIT [the Fashion Institute of Technology], and I started doing standup. So how A went to B, I don’t know!

I can understand Melissa’s frustration – but honestly – I’ve never been a huge fan of her clothes. I don’t know what to expect from her line – but hopefully she’ll release some cute clothes! I’m excited to see what she does!

Gisele Bundchen lands the July cover of Elle Canada!

article-2649958-1E81371700000578-985_634x893

Gisele Bundchen lands the July 2014 issue of Elle Canada. The Brazilian supermodel opens up about her body (again) and about the World Cup which will be held in her homeland this year.

On her relationship with her body: “The body is a temple. I enjoy moving. I don’t play much volleyball anymore, but I ride horses, surf and play beach tennis. I play wherever I am. Kung fu, boxing, yoga, Pilates…. It makes me feel alive. If I don’t move my body, I don’t feel good.”

On career longevity: “People trust me when they book me for a job. The minimum I give them is 100 percent. I’ve never been late for a job, I respect people and I want to be at my best every time: to show up and deliver. When I lose that, I’ll stop. I’ve done a million photos in my life, and my excitement for it remains intact.”

On attending the World Cup in Brazil: “Well, I would like to score a goal myself. [Laughs] I’m very proud that I was born in Brazil. I love the spirit of the Brazilian people. There’s something magical about it. There’s a viva—there is joy. There is warmth—a sense of welcome. When I first came to America, I was hugging and kissing everyone and people were shocked. Soccer supporters will come from different parts of the world, and they will experience that side of Brazilian life—all that beauty and energy.”

Below is a picture she posted on her Instagram page recently. I suppose if I had her body, I wouldn’t shut up about it either. :)

A COVERGIRL Bombshell WARNING….

IMG_2056

Let me start out by saying I am a HUGE fan of COVERGIRL’S mascara, for the most part. Their LashBlast mascara is pretty much the only mascara I use. Recently I was sent their new Bombshell Volume Mascara to try out. The very first time I tried it – I LOVED it. CG claims the mascara provides ‘ten times more noticeable lashes vs. bare lashes’ and I would agree.

But THEN I tried to take it off. The stuff does NOT come off, and I have some pretty serious makeup remover. First I tried washing it off with my regular foamy face wash. Didn’t come off. So I thought okay, I’ll use my oil makeup remover. STILL didn’t come off. At this point I’m getting pretty frustrated – so I turned to a cotton pad, doused with makeup remover. I rubbed and I rubbed and I rubbed, and when I looked at the cotton pad, I was SHOCKED to see several eye lashes had rubbed right off. I now have two noticeable patches where my eyelashes are missing.

When I wear mascara now, I have to push the eyelashes next to the patches over to the bare areas towards the center of my lashes. I threw that bad boy in the garbage IMMEDIATELY.

And THEN yesterday while scrolling through the Daily Mail, I found I’m not alone. A LOT of women are reporting the same problem I had, with eyelashes falling out. Read the story here.

So what does COVERGIRL have to say for themselves? They say it “wears like a waterproof” mascara, so it may be more difficult to remove. Wow, ya think? They now say that they are changing the packaging on their mascara urging women to use oil-based makeup removers when taking the product off. But I tried that – and even that doesn’t work. Not completely, anyway. CG has released a statement:

COVERGIRL values all feedback from women who use our products, and takes their input and reviews to heart. Many women have told us that they love a dramatic, dark lash look from a mascara with staying power. But, some other women have said they find mascaras like Bombshell difficult to remove. So, we’ve taken steps to more broadly communicate the need to use an oil-based remover with long-lasting mascaras. For example, there is a how-to video tutorial on our YouTube channel, and we regularly respond to questions from women who call, or contact us in social media. In addition, we are in the process of updating the Bombshell packaging to advise use of an oil-based remover. We still encourage anyone with comments or questions to reach out to COVERGIRL at 1-800-426-8374.

I write this post as a warning. Sure – the mascara looks great – but it better because you’re never going to be able to get it off!

Skip this product – it is SO not worth it!

Avocado’s aren’t just for guacamole anymore!

IMG_2026

While avocados are the key ingredient in the delicious Mexican dip, did you know that the fruit has major anti-acne benefits? It’s true: TURO SKIN’s Anti-Acne Spot Treatment contains Avocutine, which is derived from avocados and aids in oil control and reduces dead skin cell accumulation. Additionally, the Spot Treatment minimizes breakouts while accelerating the healing process while reducing scarring and hyperpigmentation.

TURO SKIN™ Anti-Acne Spot Treatment (SRP $22 at turoskin.com and at select physicians’ offices nationwide) is a potent, fast-acting treatment that can be applied as needed to targeted areas in order to minimize breakouts and clear acne-riddled skin. It accelerates the healing process while reducing scarring and hyperpigmentation. Key benefits include:

  • Potent and fast-acting
  • Reduces post-acne scarring
  • Non-oily, transparent, matte finish

I have an almost-14-year-old son, and acne is a big concern of mine and his. He’s been using this product for a month or so, and as his mom – I’ve noticed positive results! Acne breakouts seem fewer and far between! This works great!

*Disclosure: I was sent these products to review for the site, I was not paid to write this post, and I was not compensated for my opinions. The opinions you read here are mine alone.
