What did celebrities Kristen Wiig and Kate Beckinsale have in common at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards? Each of the stars was wearing luxury performance makeup by Hourglass Cosmetics. The LA brand’s Veil Mineral Primer, already a red-carpet favorite among leading artists, was used on the women to create a flawless canvas and ensure the longevity of their makeup. Both Wiig and Beckinsale carried Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Imagine in their clutches for touch-ups during the evening.

On Contraband star Kate Beckinsale, a presenter at the Golden Globes, makeup artist Molly Stern focused on radiant skin, bold eyes and high-gloss lips. “Kate’s Roberto Cavalli dress was so ethereal and magical, I wanted to keep the skin looking completely luminous and create a bit of edge with the eyes. Kate Beckinsale: Get The Look

Skin: Molly began by moisturizing Kate’s skin with Natura Bisse’s The Cure Cream. She then primed with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer which creates a flawless canvas for makeup, followed by a light application of Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand. Molly loved the sheer finish of the foundation which allowed the British beauty’s gorgeous skin to shine through.

For an extra pop of light, she dabbed Chanel’s Blazing Gold Ombré Essential over the inner lid. Her lashes are deep and jet-black due to Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara, followed by Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer which was painted over them for an extra kick of drama.

Lips: Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème lipstick in Fresco was used as a base on Kate’s lips, followed by Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Imagine for a glistening sheen.

For Kristen Wiig’s gorgeous red-carpet look, makeup artist Heba Thorisdottir balanced the star’s nude Bill Blass gown with a symphony of neutral shades. “It was all about fresh, glowing skin and luscious lashes,” says Thorisdottir, who also headed up the makeup on Bridesmaids, the movie Wiig was nominated for as a best actress. “I used Hourglass’ new Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation since it has excellent coverage and staying power. On the cheeks I used Illume Crème to Powder Bronze Duo to create illumination. And to make Kristen’s eyes really pop, I applied Film Noir Mascara with Film Noir Lash Lacquer as a finishing step. Kristen has naturally long and thick eyelashes, so all she needed was a couple of swipes of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara to enhance, followed by a coat of Film Noir Lash Lacquer for impact. The top coat gave her lashes extra volume, length and high-gloss shine.

Lips: Heba filled in the lips with D&G Precision Lipliner in Nude. She then used Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème lipstick in Fable. The final note? Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Imagine, a peach champagne shade, for memorably pretty lips.

At the 17th Annual Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles, Emma Stone’s shimmery blue eyeliner, courtesy of makeup artist Rachel Goodwin, caught our attention. “Navy-lined eyes are an easy way to baby step into the world of color,” Goodwin told us. “I used a metallic blue for a more glamorous effect.” In the same way a chambray shirt and a pair of jeans will work with almost anything, blue eyeliner can be an unexpected neutral in your makeup bag. The arrival of the New Year signals the creation of resolutions focused on emotional and physical enhancement. When it comes to beauty, some women like to deviate from a regular routine, hoping to spice it up for 2012. But, it doesn’t look like the natural makeup trend is going anywhere, and if we’ve learned anything from Jersey Shore’s Sammi Sweetheart, a dramatic make-under can be even more flattering than a makeover. Here, makeup expert Gail Sagel, CEO of FACES Beautiful and creator of the Brush-On Liquid Mineral Makeup, shares her tips for creating the highly sought-after natural-looking face.

When crafting a natural look, keep a few key things in mind. To begin, it is just as important to moisturize skin as it is to know one’s natural skin tone. Understanding one’s complexion is significant in choosing the best nude shade to enhance facial features. For example, if your skin tone is cool, choose something with pink undertones; if your complexion is warm, a yellow undertone would be best.

Standout Eyes
· Shade eyelids with a soft hand; shimmery colors can look especially flattering if they are not too dramatic. “Stila’s In the Light palate of natural colors is beautiful. It has a color range that could work for anyone and is absolutely perfect for blending,” says Gail. Use a coat or two of mascara, and a swipe of eyeliner if you desire, but stop there.

· An eyebrow expert, Gail suggests going for the bold brow to further enhance the look. “Stay in the same color family when you define your brow; a shade darker than your natural hue is sufficient. Use a shadow that basically matches your eyebrow, and blend upward with a small brush.”

Fresh Face
· When it comes to foundation, keep it light. If you can get away without concealer, Gail encourages it. “I like to use products that highlight the skin rather than hide it, especially when creating a look of this nature. My go-to facial enhancer is FACES Beautiful Brush-On Liquid Mineral Makeup, which gives a flawless finish that leaves skin glowing.”

· For blush, stick to something that’s around your normal flush color. Gail prefers a cream blush here, which allows for better, more even blending. Luscious, but Natural, Lips

· “When choosing a lip option, you want something that has the thickness of lipstick without drying or the shine of a gloss. Choose a tinted lip balm, to keep your lips hydrated as well as radiant,” says Gail. Her favorite lip tint? According to Gail, “People are always surprised to see that creating a fresh face is just as complex as applying makeup for a night out.
