REESE WITHERSPOON
Presenter Reese Witherspoon’s retro ponytail evoked Sixties mod fashion on the red carpet. To begin, apply a texturizing and lifting spray to hair and blow dry using a large round brush. Make sure to really lift hair at roots, creating epic volume which is essential to the look. Next, use a 1 and a half-inch curling iron to create loose waves and movement. Gather the hair up into a ponytail high up at the back of the head. As you do this, push hair forward to create lift at the crown. Use bobby pins to keep the ponytail in place. Set the whole look off with a coat of maximum hold hairspray.

MILA KUNIS
Black Swan star Mila Kunis looked positively gorgeous in this prom-esque do. Begin by parting the hair deeply to the side. Use a ¾-inch curling iron to create a wavy, tousled texture throughout hair. Allow a top section to drape loosely across half the forehead, gather the rest of hair together at the nape of the neck. Twist hair up and into a loose bun underneath its base, securing with bobby pins. Apply a shine boosting hairspray to finish the look.

GWYNETH PALTROW
Best Song performer Gwyneth Paltrow’s sleek hair complemented her shimmery form-fitting gown perfectly. The star’s modern style looked sensational on the Red Carpet, but is also versatile enough to rock virtually anywhere. For this look, apply a shine serum throughout wet locks and blow dry straight with a concentrated nozzle attachment on the blow dryer. Part hair down the middle and style hair in sections with a 1-inch flattening iron. Finish the look with a shine boosting hairspray for a polished look.

JENNIFER LAWRENCE
20-year-old best actress nominee, Jennifer Lawrence, looked hip and sexy with long layered waves. This look is simple but the results are head-turning. Begin by running a thickening lotion through damp hair. Blow dry using a paddle brush. Use a 2-inch curling iron to create sultry loose waves. Feel free to use hands to create more body and movement. Finish the look off with a medium-hold hair spray.

Get Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson’s Oscar Hair With Fekkai Products!

This year for the 83nd Annual Academy Awards, four of the most sought after hairstyles seen on the red carpet were created exclusively by Fekkai stylists using Fekkai products. For information on the hairstylist’s inspirations and the products used to achieve the look, see below:

Frederic Fekkai’s Adir Abergel tended to the tresses of Host, Anne Hathaway

INSPIRATION: A modern take on an Edwardian influenced style accented with a bohemian flair; a soft, loose style with beautiful shine.

HOW TO:

1. Begin by parting the hair down the center and apply Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Volume Styling Whip to the hair from roots ends

2. Blow-dry the hair using Fekkai Round Brush.

3. Next, pull hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, making sure to cover the ears.

4. Then twist the ponytail into a loose knot.

5. The key is keeping it loose for a touch of bohemian flair. It’s almost like a draping around the face with wispy pieces of hair coming outsoftly.

6. Finish the look by spraying the Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray.

INSPIRATION: Duffy sought to bring out ‘the real Scarlett Johansson’ by creating a young, sexy, modern shag with dry texture.

6) Take a hairdryer with nozzle attachment and blast the root of the hair for hold and volume

7) Run fingers through the hair to break-up the waves.

8) Clamp the ends with a flat iron to flatten the curl, creating an imperfect, sleeker wave.

Get the Look: Marisa Tomei 2011 Oscars

CELEBRITY MAKE-UP ARTIST MATTHEW VANLEEUWEN
CREATED PRESENTER MARISA TOMEI’S RED CARPET LOOK
FOR THE 83rd ANNUAL OSCAR AWARDS
USING EXCLUSIVELY ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS PRODUCT

For Marisa Tomei’s gorgeous red carpet look, makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen worked exclusively with Anastasia Beverly Hills product.

Matthew took the Anastasia Highlighting Crème Duo in St Tropezdipped into the crème blush and applied it in gentle back and forth sweeps across Marisa’s smiling cheeks. (Pro tip: smiling makes the job mistake proof, because it helps the blush go where it’s supposed to). Using the same brush, Matthew dipped into the highlighting crème and brushed the tops of the lips and nose with the illuminating fluid. The skin was “so translucent and smooth looking!”

Turning to brows, Matthew filled and shaped Marisa’s with Anastasia Brow Wiz Pencil in Brunette  and created a few feathery strokes in the brow and to define the bottom edge of the brow. Matthew then took Anastasia Brow Duality Penc and placed a bit of the matte highlighter just at the arch of the brow. The total effect is ultra defined and crisp brows that perfectly frame the face.

Moving to the eyes, Matthew took Anastasia Illumin8 Eye Shadow Palette 1  and dusted the soft pink sorbet shadow all over the eye to brighten and tone the skin. Matthew raved that “the shadow is so smoothing and imparts a modern velvety texture.” Then Matthew took Illumin8 palette 3  and blended the mauve shade into the crease “to create the perfect shade of orchid.” Next, Matthew lined the eye with a thin line of black pencil and smudged the sparkly blue/black shadow from Illumin8 palette #3 into the lashline to create a softer, smokey eyeline.

The eye makeup was finished by curling the lashes and applying two coats of Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara, which Matthew says “has reached cult status with many of my clients…it’s incredible.”

Finally to finish Marisa’s stunning look, Matthew applied Anastasia Hydrafull Lip Gloss in Sangria , a gorgeous soft amethyst berry shade.

Oscar Best Picture inspired cocktails!

This year, there was no shortage of amazing films for the The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to choose from for their nominations. Among those selected, few are getting as much buzz as The King’s Speech, The Social Network, The Fighter and Black Swan. These films are already winners this awards season and are sure to pick up more trophies at the Oscars February 27th. In celebration of this year’s Academy Awards BOMBAY SAPPHIRE, BENEDICTINE Liqueur, Dewar’s and Cointreau have teamed up to put together a few signature cocktails inspired by this year’s hottest films– also Dewar’s and Bombay Sapphire have been sponsoring a lot of the dinners and lunches for these stars and films leading up to the Oscars so they have definitely been sipped by all the A-listers. They’re perfect for serving during your Oscar viewing party!

The King’s Speech

Raise your glass to Colin Firth’s Golden Globe and SAG victories with this decidedly British cocktail. Made with Earl Grey tea and Bombay Sapphire, the quintessential London Dry Gin, this cocktail is worthy of a King.

Put a pinch of tea leaves in center, garnish with a stick of orange bitters rock candy on the side of the tea saucer.

The Social Network

Created by Boston mixologist Scott Marshall of Drink, this coffee-infused Benedictine cocktail is the perfect drink to fuel those long nights spent hacking into the Harvard computer network.

The All-Nighter

2 ½ oz. Rye Whiskey

½ oz. Benedictine Liqueur

Muddled fresh coffee beans

Build in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and stir. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

The Fighter

Toast to two Knock-out performances from Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg, in this year’s The Fighter with a Dewar’s 12 cocktail that packs a punch, yet evokes passion. Watch as the film dukes it out for Oscar gold.

1 oz cherry liqueur

1 oz red (sweet) vermouth

1 oz fresh squeezed orange juice

Black Swan- My personal favorite!

In one of the best performances of the year, toast Natalie Portman’s startling character portrayal in this psychological thriller. Follow her swirl of brilliance and insanity from White Swan to Black Swan, while drinking cocktails to match. Begin with the White Lady in its classic and purest form and end with the dark and deliciously menacing Cointreau Noir in Black Ice.

3/4 oz. Lemon juice
Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass.

Black Ice

3 oz. Cointreau Noir
