Rihanna rocked $5,000 nail polish at last night’s Grammy Awards!

Is nail polish the new must-have accessory? Celebs typically show up on the red carpet dripping in jewelry that costs an astronomical amount. But 24-karat nail polish???

Rihanna showed up on the Grammys red carpet last night with 24-karat gold nail polish. The Red Carpet Manicure polish, “Amor 24″ costs $5,000 PER BOTTLE. Now that’s a bit much. Seriously – she’s going to go home and take that polish off, most likely. Why not use a nail polish that looks gold – but isn’t ACTUALLY gold? See my “look for less” polish below!

Allure talked to celebrity manicurist Jin Soon Choi for her tips on keeping precious-metal nails pretty:

Stay short: File your nails to a short or medium length or it will look severe, Choi says.

Shape carefully: Soon recommends a gentle, round shape. “You don’t want it to be too extreme—too square or too pointy,” she says.”It’s already metallic.”

Make it last: Soon, who’s famous for her chip-proof manicures, uses a nail strengthener in place of a base coat. “It has better coverage,” she says. After two coats of nail color, she finishes with a glossy top coat.

UPDATE: Remember our super – amazing nail polish tip?

I just thought I should give you guys an update… here’s a new picture of my fingernail polish taken this morning. I applied this nail polish back on January 21st. That’s 11 days ago!! Thanks to an awesome manicure tip that actually works, I managed to stay chip free for 11 days! I’m taking my polish today, because of grow-out, but I could have probably kept it even longer.

In case you missed it, last week I posted an awesome manicure tip.

Put your nail polish on – as you usually would. Base coat, 2 layers of nail polish, then top coat. The next day – apply a layer of top coat. Repeat this step every day after – I did it for a week. It sealed the polish on so well, it didn’t chip – not even one finger in 11 days!

One layer of top coat a day – saves your manicure! The proof is in the pictures!

The manicure tip you wish you’d heard years ago – that will make your color last (chip-free) for a week!

A while back I was given a manicure tip that honestly, I didn’t think much of. I thought “meh” – I bet it doesn’t work. But then, as I was sitting here this morning typing, I was looking down at my nails. I realized I painted them LAST SATURDAY and I don’t have one single chip! How’d I do it?

TIP: To keep your nails looking fresh, chip-free, and looking otherwise fabulous….. apply a thin layer of topcoat to your nail polish every day.

That’s it! That’s all it takes! I’ve tried this trick over the past week – and I’ll be darned if it doesn’t actually work. On all 10 fingers – I have not one single chip. 6 days chip-free? That’s pretty unbelievable.

What do you have to lose? You’ll thank us later… I promise.

PS: Here’s the topcoat I use and love.

Try Glitter
WHAT TO KEEP IN MIND For glimmering nails—not gauche ones—manicurist Ashlie Johnson recommends the following tip: “Paint your nails a solid color first, then layer glitter on just the tips—like a French manicure.” Bonus: Since glitter formulas are harder to remove, your manicure has more staying power.
