The M·A·C AIDS Fund (MAF) and its songstress spokesperson Fergie dedicated more than £300,000 to fight stigma and shame associated with HIV and AIDS in the United Kingdom, where new diagnoses of the disease have nearly tripled over the past 10 years. The announcement follows a 2007 survey from the organization that revealed Britons rank stigma and shame as the number one issue contributing to the spread of HIV and a pledge earlier this year from MAF to fund programs against the issue.

The M·A·C AIDS Fund, the heart and soul of M·A·C Cosmetics, was established in 1994 to support men, women and children affected by HIV and AIDS globally. MAF is a pioneer in HIV and AIDS funding, providing financial support to organizations working with underserved regions and populations. As the largest corporate non-pharmaceutical giver in the arena, MAF strives to raise awareness of four key issues in the fight against HIV and AIDS: prevention, the link between poverty and HIV and AIDS, access to care, and adherence to medications and treatments. To date, MAF has raised more than £87 million ($130m USD) exclusively through the sale of M·A·C’s VIVA GLAM lipstick and lipglass, donating 100 per cent of the sale price to fight HIV and AIDS. In the UK, the MAC AIDS Fund has donated £2.9 million to HIV/AIDS charities since 1998. For more information, visit
