Mascara Review: 2 to SKIP – 1 to KEEP!

I was at the store last weekend, where I saw there was a sale on Rimmel London mascaras. Buy one get one free! Who could pass that up? Not me! So I grabbed two mascaras that I thought I’d like to try.

So I sit down, put all my other makeup on (foundation, eyeshadow, etc.) and I pull out Max Volume Flash, my new mascara. I pull the wand out of the tube – and immediately I HATE IT. It pulled out a TON of mascara, and the brush was all gooped up with black mascara. I scraped it off, and tried to put it on, and I swear I hated it in two strokes. It’s awful. It doesn’t do a darn thing that it says it will. I’ve tried a lot of mascaras, and this one might be one of the worst. Look at that packaging! 14X volume! Fast – no mess lashes! Collagen and Keratin enriched! Their biggest brush ever! Psht. No good. I put the lid back on – and tossed it in the trash.

Then I decide to open the next mascara I bought, Glam’Eyes. I should have known I wouldn’t like it just by looking at the wand. I hate small brushes. I like a nice – thick brush. But I decided to try it anyway, and I didn’t like it at all. Again, everything it promises on the packaging is complete BS. Talk about false advertising! It’s practically the same exact mascara as Max Volume Flash – just in a different tube. Definitely NOT worth my money, and I won’t be trying any more Rimmel mascaras any time soon. I know Erin has tried one that she likes – but I’d definitely tell you guys to skip these two. They’re no good.

So I can’t leave you with all bad news, can I? How about 1 mascara I think you SHOULD try?

I’m absolutely in love with L’Oreal’s Millions of Lashes! I have looooong struggled with drugstore mascaras, because in my opinion, they can’t stand up to some of the more expensive versions like Diorshow. Aaaand then I tried L’Oreal’s Voluminous Million Lashes. It was love at first stroke.

I adore this mascara. For only $8, you’re getting what you could get for $30+ on a more expensive brand. It goes on smoothly, it isn’t clumpy, the brush is fantastic, it doesn’t flake, it actually DOES make your lashes look longer and fuller. In my opinion, it’s one of the few drugstore mascaras that actually live up to the hype. If you’re looking for a new mascara to try – try this guy. You won’t be sorry!

New Trend: Botox for Hair?

L’Oreal has released a new in-salon Professional Fiberceutic Fiber Filling Treatment. In other words, Botox for hair.

Celebrity stylist Negin Zand at Sally Hershberger’s West Hollywood Salone is already using the product on her celebrity clients, and the response has been great!

Who in particular? “Everyone,” she says, with a sly smile. And we know her list of clients includes Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, Sheryl Crow, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, Kate Bosworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett, Diane Lane, Meg Ryan, Evan Rachel Wood, Jessica Biel, Jane Fonda, Megan Fox, Carey Mulligan, to name just a few.

This new L’Oreal product finds the damage in the hair strands and smooths out the surface, hence the nickname Botox for Hair. Zand explains: “The product is really great for women with fine, dry or colored hair and hair that’s gotten damaged from blow drying and flat-ironing. It makes the hair smoother, shinier, silkier. But it can only be professionally once applied every six weeks. Like everything, there can be too much of a good thing.”

The active molecule — trademarked as Intra-Cylane — is currently only available through salons and must be applied by hair-dressers. It is washed into the hair using a shampoo, and then once the hair has been towel dried, more of the chemical is added in serum form. Inside word is that L’Oreal will soon launch a range of consumer Botox for Hair shampoos and conditioners to be used in between the salon treatments. The treatment costs $100 at the Hershberger salon, located at 760 North La Cienega Boulevard, West Hollywood.

This new miracle product is just in time for the 2012 awards season. We’re gonna go on record predicting a major hair trend: shiny, silky hair on the nominees and presenters at the Critics Choice, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, Independent Spirit Awards and the Oscars.

I would be happy to offer my hair up as a test dummy if anyone local is looking to try it out! This helps explain why most these female celebs have amazing hair!

So I Googled this product, and did find that you can buy it on Amazon, although that kinda scares me.

My Review: L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes

I recently found myself at Target standing in front of the makeup – deciding whether or not I want to go with my trusty Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara – or if I wanted to try something new. I decided to give a new mascara a shot. I decided upon L’Oreal’s NEW Voluminous Million Lashes.

For lashes that look a million times multiplied and perfectly defined, there’s only one mascara – NEW Voluminous Million Lashes. The built-in Clean-Sweep Wiping System wipes the brush free of clumps leaving the perfect amount of mascara for an ultra-volumized clean lash look. The Millionizing Brush evenly thickens lashes from root to tip. The result? Lashes look so multiplied, so clean, it’s like seeing millions.

That’s a lot to live up to – no? Well, it was enough to sell me…. I hate clumps in my mascara, but not nearly as much as I hate flaking.

Anyway – so here’s my thoughts.

PRO’S:

  • It does go on beautifully and smoothly
  • The brush is great
  • It does make my lashes look great – but like I’m seeing millions? Not so much.
  • It lasts all day – without flaking
  • No clumps!

CON’S:

  • Even though they market this as a fragrance-free product, it’s absolutely NOT TRUE. It’s very highly fragranced. In fact, it’s the only mascara I’ve ever used that had a fragrance so strong. The smell is a bit off putting, actually.
  • The container is so light – I don’t see how there could be much mascara in there at all. I’m really curious how long this product is going to last. It seems like there isn’t much in the tube at all.
  • It definitely DOES NOT do what it says. It doesn’t make my lashes look multiplied at all. It looks like my eyelashes normally do.
  • This is silly – and isn’t really a huge con, but I was annoyed! When picking out which color I wanted – there were THREE BLACKS to choose from! 3!? Is that really necessary? Black, Blackest Black, and Carbon Black. There were no pictures to show how “black” each one was – so I just picked one – and ran with it. Do we really need 3 “blacks” L’Oreal? It’s so weird!

So here’s the real test… Do I love this mascara enough to switch from Lash Blast? Maybe…. Lash Blast (I don’t know what it is) has really been flaking on me lately. If there’s one thing I hate the most it’s mascara that flakes…it really bugs my sensitive eyes. And for some reason, I’ve noticed that Lash Blast has been flaking more on me lately. So maybe I’ll have to give this one a shot?

If you’ve tried it – I’d love to hear what you think!
