Get The Look: Amy Adams at the 2014 Golden Globes

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Amy looked beautiful last night she just gets better with age. Check out how to recreate her Golden Globes 70’s Inspired look.

Amy Adams 2014 Golden Globe Awards
Look by Stephen Sollitto for Laura Mercier

Makeup artist Stephen Sollitto created a “chic” 1970s-inspired makeup look for Adams, who won the Golden Globe for “Best Actress (Musical or Comedy)” for her role as Sydney Prosser in “American Hustle.”

Sollitto stated, “This whole season, in a nod to Amy’s movie ‘American Hustle,’ we have been inspired by the ‘70s. With their fantastic smiles, healthy glows and brushed out hair, we have kept the decade’s style in mind for each look.”

FACE: Flawless, bronzed, glowing skin was the focus of the look

  • Sollitto began prepping Adams’ skin the evening before the Globes, instructing the actress to apply RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream Retexturizing Hydrator, ($195) and RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Eye Cream Ultra Retexturizing Hydrator, ($140) after cleansing her skin.
  • The day of the awards, Sollitto applied the NEW Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide (COMING FALL 2014) all over Adams’ face. Sollitto stated, “This foundation goes on easily but the finish is very polished. It’s long wearing, oil free and lightweight. The best thing is that is gives you a matte finish so you don’t have to dust your face with loose powder. It’s built in, simple and genius.”
  •  To “catapult” the look into the ‘70s, Sollitto applied a light dusting of Laura Mercier Bronzing Pressed Powder in Matte Bronze, ($32).
  • He achieved the “perfect glow” by applying Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Praline, ($24) to Adams’ cheeks using his fingers.

LIPS: “Nudish orange” lips supported the star’s “bronzy glow”

  •  Sollitto applied a mixture of Laura Mercier Crème Lip Colour in Discretion and Tangerine, ($24/each) because the customized shade “supported Adams’ bronzy glow, but didn’t compete with it for attention.”

EYES: Neutral eyes that “pop”

  • First, Sollitto created a modern neutral base by applying Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Ballet Pink, ($23) all over Adams’ lids.
  • Next, he brushed Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Terracotta, ($23) into Adams’ lash line and lid, and sweeping it out at the corners of her eyes and under her bottom lashes.
  • To make Adams’ eyes “pop,” he applied Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick Colour in Plum, ($26) to her upper lash line and the outer corner of her lower lash line.
  • He then applied Dior Diorshow Blackout Mascara ($25) to her upper and lower lashes.
  • Sollitto finished the look by dotting Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick Colour in Sugar Frost, ($26) to the corners of the Adams’ eyes.

Rooney Mara’s 7 Beauty Must-Haves

rooney-mara-cover-shoot-4

InStyle magazine chatted with Rooney Mara to find out the secret to her gorgeous skin and  get the scoop on her favorite products. To read more check out the current issue of InStyle magazine on newsstands now.

Your complexion is the envy of every beauty editor I know. Please don’t tell us it’s just good genes.
People are going to hate me for saying this, but I really don’t have a regimen. I don’t use a lot of products because my skin is so sensitive, though I always wear sunscreen, usually Chanel and Dermalogica. I try to eat healthfully and hardly ever drink alcohol. When you eat the right things, you don’t need that many products.

And the Rooney Mara don’t-hate-me-because-my-skin-looks-airbrushed diet consists of …
Well, I’m gluten-free. A bunch of people in my family have celiac disease, so I stopped eating wheat about a year ago, and right away I noticed a difference. I’m also vegan; I basically eat only fruits and vegetables. I’ve never felt better than I do now.

Let’s talk hair. Your jet-black strands and blunt baby bangs may well be in the Pinterest hall of fame for “aspirational cut.”
We did short bangs for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but it was when they grew out that people really started to like them. As for color, I’ve been lighter, but I prefer being brunette. I find that people with dark hair don’t need to wear as much makeup.

Professional pluckers tell me they get dozens of requests for “Rooney Mara brows.” Are they high-maintenance?
They’re actually no-maintenance—that’s why they’re so prominent!

Review: Laura Mercier Fresh Fig Honey Bath

laura mercier fresh fig honey bath

I am all about a nice hot bath on cool, rainy Fall days. We have been in some sort of monsoon season here in the Pacific NW and I have been looking for a great new bath product.  I was excited to receive a sample of the Laura Mercier Fresh Fig Honey Bath.

Being a huge Laura Mercier fan I know about all the great makeup products but had not tried this bath line. The box and jar are so pretty and would make a great gift but even better is what is inside. The Fresh Fig Honey Bath is so decadent, use dip into the jar with the enclosed honey dipper (so cute!) then twirl it under running water. It creates really silky, thick and rich bubbles. The Fig and apricot blend to create such a beautiful and warm scent. On top of getting out of the bath warm and smelling great the Fresh Fig Honey Bath leaves my skin so soft I don’t even need lotion.

The price is on the higher side but I needed just one dip with the honey dipper to get a nice full bath of bubble. And the jar is huge so it will last a long time. If you are looking for something to reward yourself with this is it, or make someone you love happy this would make a great gift.

Get The Look: Michelle Dockery at the 2013 Emmy Awards

65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Arrivals

Michelle Dockery Emmy Awards 2013
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series Nominee, Downton Abbey
Look by Jordan Long for Laura Mercier

For Dockery’s 2013 Emmys makeup look, makeup artist Jordan Long was inspired by a series of stunning watercolors painted by the artist David Downton in the January 2013 issue of Vanity Fair. In order to complement the classic femininity and clean lines of Dockery’s custom made Prada gown, Long kept her makeup very minimal, focusing on her glowing skin and strong brows.

FACE: Flawless, glowing skin
• Long first prepped the skin with a moisturizer, eye cream and Laura Mercier Lip Balm, ($20).
• Next, Long applied a fine layer of Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation in Soft Ivory, ($45), using a damp sponge. Then she used Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC#1, ($32) to conceal the skin only where needed.
• She then brushed Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Oleander, ($24) on the apples of the cheeks. In order to give Dockery a subtle glow, Long mixed Laura Mercier Secret Brightener, ($30) with the cream blush.
• Next, she applied a light dusting of Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder, ($35), concentrating solely on the t-zone.
• Lastly, Long layered Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Oleander, ($24) on top of the powder, using the Laura Mercier Finishing Brush, ($42).

LIPS: Neutral lips contrasted the star’s bright, red gown
• Long applied Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Bellini, ($24) to Dockery’s naturally pigmented lips.

EYES: Strong brows were the focal point of the eyes
• First, Long blended Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Fresco, ($23) over the entire lid.
• Next, she used the Laura Mercier Eye Crease Travel Brush, ($29) to blend in Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Ballet Pink, ($23) at the center of the lids and into the corner of the eyes, providing a subtle shimmer.
• She then applied Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Blanc, ($23) just under the star’s brows.
• Long smudged Laura Mercier Crème Eye Liner in Espresso, ($22) very tightly to the lashline and followed with three coats of Laura Mercier Waterproof Mascara in Black, ($20) on the upper and lower lashes. She then added a strip of Laura Mercier Center Faux Eyelashes, ($18) to provide a “fluttery pop.”
• To finish the look, Long filled in and slightly extended Dockery’s brows with Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Coffee Ground, ($23) using the Laura Mercier Angled Eye Colour Brush, ($29).
