  • To intensify the smoky-eye effect, Blunder applied Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Cocoa, ($26) with the Laura Mercier Pony Tail Brush, ($29).
  • Using a clean Laura Mercier Pony Tail Brush, ($29), she applied Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Ballet Pink, ($24) on the inner corner of her eye and eyelid.

Amy Adams 86th Annual Academy Awards
Nominee, Actress in a Leading Role, American Hustle

Makeup by Stephen Sollitto

Celebrity makeup artist Stephen Sollitto created a sophisticated makeup look for Amy Adams, who is nominated for “Actress in a Leading Role” for her portrayal of Sydney Prosser in “American Hustle.” He stated, “She wore a stunning sapphire blue Gucci gown, modern and clean. Obviously, I am inspired by this color and simply wanted the makeup to be just as sophisticated.” Below, he breaks down the steps he took to create her flawless red carpet look.

SKINCARE PREP

Sollitto prepared Adams’ skin using RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream ($195). He stated, “I always moisturize with this product. This is the line I use on myself every day. Prepping the skin is just as important as the makeup you use.”

FOUNDATION

  • Sollitto applied Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide (NEW – Coming Fall 2014) to create a flawless complexion. He noted, “This foundation is simple to apply with a wet sponge or your fingers. It’s long wear, oil free and lightweight. In the end it gives you a matte finish so you don’t have to dust your face with loose powder, it’s built in.”

EYES

  • Sollitto applied Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Terracotta ($24) to Adams’ lids and contrasted the look by applying Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Black Karat ($24) under the star’s bottom lashes.
  • To keep Adam’s eyes looking ”bright,” Sollitto dotted his “ideal champagne shade,” Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Sugar Frost ($26) to the inner corners of Adams’ eyes.
  • He applied Nars Eye Paint Liner in Tatar ($25) along the star’s upper lash line to make them “pop.”
  • To finish, he applied Dior Black Out Mascara ($25) to Adams’ lashes.

CHEEKS

  • Sollitto applied the perfect “spring-like blush,” Tom Ford Beauty Cheek Color in Ravish ($56) to create a look “that was flush with color.”

LIPS

  • Sollitto noted that he wanted to achieve a lip look that was “pretty, a little bit rosy and glossy.” He used Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Cozy ($25) which he described as “having the perfect punch I was looking for.” He then layered Tom Ford Beauty Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Rose Crush ($45) over it “for a bit of glamour to match the day.”

Amy Adams 2014 Golden Globe Awards
Look by Stephen Sollitto for Laura Mercier

Makeup artist Stephen Sollitto created a “chic” 1970s-inspired makeup look for Adams, who won the Golden Globe for “Best Actress (Musical or Comedy)” for her role as Sydney Prosser in “American Hustle.”

Sollitto stated, “This whole season, in a nod to Amy’s movie ‘American Hustle,’ we have been inspired by the ‘70s. With their fantastic smiles, healthy glows and brushed out hair, we have kept the decade’s style in mind for each look.”

FACE: Flawless, bronzed, glowing skin was the focus of the look

  • Sollitto began prepping Adams’ skin the evening before the Globes, instructing the actress to apply RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream Retexturizing Hydrator, ($195) and RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Eye Cream Ultra Retexturizing Hydrator, ($140) after cleansing her skin.
  • The day of the awards, Sollitto applied the NEW Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide (COMING FALL 2014) all over Adams’ face. Sollitto stated, “This foundation goes on easily but the finish is very polished. It’s long wearing, oil free and lightweight. The best thing is that is gives you a matte finish so you don’t have to dust your face with loose powder. It’s built in, simple and genius.”
  •  To “catapult” the look into the ‘70s, Sollitto applied a light dusting of Laura Mercier Bronzing Pressed Powder in Matte Bronze, ($32).
  • He achieved the “perfect glow” by applying Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Praline, ($24) to Adams’ cheeks using his fingers.

LIPS: “Nudish orange” lips supported the star’s “bronzy glow”

  •  Sollitto applied a mixture of Laura Mercier Crème Lip Colour in Discretion and Tangerine, ($24/each) because the customized shade “supported Adams’ bronzy glow, but didn’t compete with it for attention.”

EYES: Neutral eyes that “pop”

  • First, Sollitto created a modern neutral base by applying Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Ballet Pink, ($23) all over Adams’ lids.
  • Next, he brushed Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Terracotta, ($23) into Adams’ lash line and lid, and sweeping it out at the corners of her eyes and under her bottom lashes.
  • To make Adams’ eyes “pop,” he applied Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick Colour in Plum, ($26) to her upper lash line and the outer corner of her lower lash line.
  • He then applied Dior Diorshow Blackout Mascara ($25) to her upper and lower lashes.
  • Sollitto finished the look by dotting Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick Colour in Sugar Frost, ($26) to the corners of the Adams’ eyes.

Rooney Mara’s 7 Beauty Must-Haves

rooney-mara-cover-shoot-4

InStyle magazine chatted with Rooney Mara to find out the secret to her gorgeous skin and  get the scoop on her favorite products. To read more check out the current issue of InStyle magazine on newsstands now.

Your complexion is the envy of every beauty editor I know. Please don’t tell us it’s just good genes.
People are going to hate me for saying this, but I really don’t have a regimen. I don’t use a lot of products because my skin is so sensitive, though I always wear sunscreen, usually Chanel and Dermalogica. I try to eat healthfully and hardly ever drink alcohol. When you eat the right things, you don’t need that many products.

And the Rooney Mara don’t-hate-me-because-my-skin-looks-airbrushed diet consists of …
Well, I’m gluten-free. A bunch of people in my family have celiac disease, so I stopped eating wheat about a year ago, and right away I noticed a difference. I’m also vegan; I basically eat only fruits and vegetables. I’ve never felt better than I do now.

Let’s talk hair. Your jet-black strands and blunt baby bangs may well be in the Pinterest hall of fame for “aspirational cut.”
We did short bangs for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but it was when they grew out that people really started to like them. As for color, I’ve been lighter, but I prefer being brunette. I find that people with dark hair don’t need to wear as much makeup.

Professional pluckers tell me they get dozens of requests for “Rooney Mara brows.” Are they high-maintenance?
They’re actually no-maintenance—that’s why they’re so prominent!
