InStyle July 2013 Cover Girl Salma Hayek dishes on beauty and dressing her age.

Salma Hayek is InStyle’s July cover girl! At 47, she has done pretty much everything she set out to do. She’s an actress (catch her in Grown Ups 2 this summer) and a producer, a devoted wife to French billionaire fashion mogul Francois-Henri Pinault, and doting mother to 5-year-old Valentina. And when it comes to social injustices, there’s no stopping her—she helped kick off Chime for Change, a campaign founded by Gucci that promotes the empowerment of girls and women around the world. In her exclusive interview with InStyle, Hayek admits she is still finding her way—and herself.

The following is excerpted from the Salma Hayek cover story, “She’s Only Just Begun” by Mike Sager, which originally appears in InStyle’s July 2013 issue.

HER REAL THOUGHTS ON DRESSING OVER 40
“I’m not really a fashionista. I have an eye; I can pull it together, but a lot of the effort I make is for my husband because I want him to be attracted to me,” she said. She likes to pick strapless looks because: “When I turned 40, I started thinking, This is the last year, whenever I’d wear a strapless dress. I always thought you can’t wear them after a certain age, but I’m still getting away with it!”

SHE DOESN’T CONSIDER BEAUTY A PRIORITY
“I know people have always thought I was beautiful, but I have never tried to be as beautiful as I can be,” she said. “I could do a lot more—exercise, or not eat dessert. Or not drink alcohol. I could make bigger efforts. I don’t think my first priority in life has ever been beauty. It’s a little bit of a rebellious spirit in me. There is more to me than looks, of course.” And aging doesn’t scare her: “I think if you are afraid of getting older, you age faster.”

HER BEST ADVICE FOR WOMEN
“You’ve got to take who you are and love who you are and do the best you can with what you’ve got,” she advised. “That goes for the figure, and it goes for everything else. You’ve got to have a sense of humor about who you are and give yourself a break. You’ve got to be kind to yourself. And it’s not easy, you know?”

For even more Salma, make sure to pick up the issue on newsstands and available for download starting Friday, June 14.

InStyle Celebrity Beauty Tip: Emma Robert’s Gorgeous Mod Eye Makeup

InStyle Get The Look: Mod Eye Makeup
Perhaps we’re inspired by the swingin’ sixties fashion of Mad Men, but the mod-inspired makeup Emma Roberts wore to the Intermix 20th anniversary party looks like something Megan Draper would pair with her printed shift dresses—save for the modern pop of color. “The real mod eyes used mostly black and white to create a graphic look, but when you play around with color like blue and white, it makes the effect quirkier, softer, and easier to wear for summer,” said Roberts’ makeup artist Nick Barose, who created the look with a double-ended blue and white liner. He lined the star’s upper lash line with the cerulean end, smudged the color with a cotton swab, then ran the white color along Roberts’ waterline. In addition to the mod effect it imparts, white eyeliner also gives you a more-awake appearance by creating the illusion of bigger eyes. If white seems too harsh for you, ease into the trend by using a flesh-toned eyeliner instead, and be sure to work with a sharpened pencil as dull products can tug at your eye. Apply the color before sweeping on mascara—unlike black eyeliner, white tends to be more obvious if it gets on your bottom lashes.

Selena Gomez lands the June cover of InStyle!

Selena Gomez lands the June cover of InStyle magazine, and doesn’t she look great? She’s definitely growing into a beautiful young woman. I love the photos that go with the article. We saw pictures from this shoot several months ago, but it’s nice to see them in the magazine.

The interview that goes with is somewhat interesting. It’s obviously done before she got back together with Justin Bieber.

She’s looking to push boundaries: “This is a weird transition for me. I want to keep pushing myself so I never feel settled. I don’t really know if it’s going to end up working. I’m stressed out most of the time.” Gomez would like to eventually say so long to music to concentrate solely on acting. She imagines a career modeled on stars like Shia LaBeouf, Jennifer Lawrence, and Natalie Portman–actors who are continually reinventing themselves, she says.

Her new album includes a breakup song: “Love Will Remember” mournfully chronicles the end of a relationship, and Gomez makes it crystal clear that she did indeed write it about Bieber. “That’s the most personal track on the record, for sure. I think it’s a sweet way of releasing it. It’s not an aggressive approach to what people are probably expecting. I’m sure he’ll love it too.” ONE MORE PIC – AND MORE AFTER THE JUMP! More »

Emily Blunt covers the May issue of InStyle: “I spend my life in sweatpants and covered in mud.”

Emily Blunt covers the May issue of InStyle Magazine, and while I’m not a huge fan of the 80′s looking cover, I do love her. So here goes.

Emily is a great actress, married to the adorable John Krasinski, and in the interview, she opens up a little about Hollywood, and her life.

On Hollywood: “I see Hollywood as a bubble that you pop your head into every now and again. I never get fully immersed in it.”

Marrying Krasinski: “Meeting John really changed my life. When I feel the support that I have from him, I feel invincible. There’s someone behind you on your good days, and someone in front of you on your bad days.”

She’s not glamorous: “I spend my life in sweatpants and covered in mud.”

She has a big husband and a big dog: “I have an enormous husband – he’s 6’3″! – and an enormous dog.”

She looks forward to the future: “Whatever those good things are, I don’t even know,” she says. “But I am a hopeful person.”

Emily is on the cover of InStyle for May, because her new movie ‘Arthur Newman’ is coming out then. The “bittersweet odd-couple movie” costars one of my all-time favorites, Colin Firth.
