Gwyneth Platrow: “I can’t do my own makeup”

Rich people problems. :)

In Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest Goop Newsletter, the Oscar-winner opened up that she cannot do her own makeup, and shares tips with how to do your own makeup.

Believe it or not, I am terrible at doing my own makeup. I’m decent at doing it for a friend, but when it comes to my own face, I never get it right. I have been wanting a step by step lesson for ages so I asked my London makeup artist, Emma Lovell, to show me how. One of my gorgeous school mum friends from my son Mosey’s class agreed to be the model (thank you, Kate!), and I learned so much. I hope it’s helpful for some of you!

Love,

She gives a really great tutorial for how to prep your skin before makeup, how to apply daytime makeup, and then how to transform that into evening makeup. Check out the tutorial here!

What to do with all that leftover pumpkin? How about a do-it-yourself pumpkin face mask!

Tis the season to carve pumpkins. But what to do with the shavings and filling once your Jack-o’-lantern is all lit up? Try making a skin-nourishing pumpkin mask.

This recipe — created by Erika Katz, author of Bonding Over Beauty — is full of exfoliating enzymes that will brighten your skin, giving you a healthy, refreshed glow. Pumpkin is also rich in vitamin A, which can help heal skin and repair damaged tissue. The antioxidant properties of the vitamin A will also help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Ingredients

2 tsp canned pureed pumpkin
1/2 tsp honey
1/4 tsp heavy whipping cream

Method

Mix all ingredients together and apply to face. Leave on for 10 minutes then rinse thoroughly.

Revamp your fall beauty routine!

Allure Magazine sat down with Jason Ascher, beauty guru for Barneys New York, and got his tips on updating our fall beauty wardrobe.

Summer’s over, what products do we need to shelve? “Those very light, summer-weight products. It’s important to switch to a heavier moisturizer which will protect your skin from dry, brisk air.”

What fall products should every woman have? “A good exfoliating product; I like Radical Skincare Age-Defying Exfoliating Pads. They create good cell turnover without scrubbing the skin, which can be too harsh. A good lip balm—By Terry Rose Balm is great—and a good SPF are also essential.”

Any favorite makeup trends for fall? “I’m really getting into brighter lips, especially fuchsia. My clients find that it’s easier to create a bold lip than a smoky eye. I also love navy eyeliners and shadows. A good navy is a softer version of black and it really brightens the whites of your eyes.”

What are the best fall fragrances? “For me, the fall is all about modernizing a classic scent. Take a floral or an amber and make it less girly. I love the newArquiste scents for fall. Every fragrance is classic with a tweak.”

What product or tool is the most overlooked? “Foundation brushes. With a brush, you end up using less and spreading it out and blending it better.”
