Fashion Week Hair Secrets Revealed

billblass.jpg

A chic bun is a great style for any hair type, any event and any outfit. The only issue is keeping the bun to stay put.

Celebrity hair stylist, Philip Pelusi and his Tela design team created chic little chignons for Caroline Seikaly’s Mercedes Benz fashion week presentation at Tela Design Studios.

The secret, according to Philip Pelusi, is to spray the length of your hair/ponytail with holding spray before twisting your hair into bun. The hairspray gives texture to the strands, allowing them to be easily manipulated. Most people spray the bun after, when they are already have the hair pinned and set, this is a much less affective method in keeping the hair to stay in place.

Ginnifer Goodwin, star in the HBO series “Big Love” has made her mark in Hollywood on the red carpet at last nights 2009 Emmy Awards! mark celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh explains how she created Ginnifer’s gorgeous red carpet look.

How to Get Ginnifer’s Red Carpet look:

Face

“Ginnifer wore a beautiful, Fuschia strapless dress, so we wanted to keep her look more neutral, but focused on her eyes. To get her look, I started by applying mark Face Xpert Flawless Touch Makeup in Buff with a foundation brush. I then applied mark Get Bright Hook Up Highlighter in Light above her cheekbones and mark Good Riddance Hook Up Highlighter in Fair/Light under her eyes. Once the foundation and creams were applied, I set everything by dusting mark Matte-Nificent in Buff/Natural with a powder brush. And finally, to give her a warm glow, I swept mark Good Glowing Mosaic Blush in Hush Baby on her cheeks using the blush/bronzer brush.”

Eyes

“For her eyes, I started by applying mark Winkstick Hook Up Eyeshadow Stick in Glitzy to her entire eyelid. Next, I layered mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Tiki from her lash line to the crease using an eyeshadow brush. I then blended mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Espresso into the crease of her eyes using an angled contour eyeshadow brush and smudged Tiki along her bottom lash line using an eyeliner brush. I finished by applying two coats of mark Make it Big Lash Plumping Mascara in Raven.”

Lips

“I completed Ginnifer’s look by layering mark Dew Drenched Moisturlicous Lip Color in Skinny Dip and mark Pro Gloss Lip Plumping Lip Shine in Swell to her lips.”

Do It Yourself Beauty Recipes!

olive-oil_beauty.jpg

Have you been cutting back on some of your favorite luxuries, like trips to the salon or picking up your favorite beauty products at the store? If so, have no fear because some of the most vitamin and nutrient packed beauty remedies can be found right in your very own kitchen. Need some recipes to get started? Here are some fab formulas from stylists at LA-based salon The Parlour on 3rd. With masks and conditioners that include things like avocado and honey, you might just find yourself tasting while you treat yourself to glowing skin and hair.

From The Parlour on 3rd Eyelash Extension Expert, Calma Yom:
Eyelash Conditioner Recipe:

Mascara tends to dry out your eyelashes and can lead to brittle, damaged, and broken hair. Natural oils can help lubricate and condition eyelashes. Try this DIY recipe for eye-mazing results. Mix a 50/50 blend of sweet oil and apricot kernel oil. Coat your lashes lightly with a lash wand and leave overnight. Wash off in the morning before applying mascara. Use as a weekly lash conditioning treatment.

From The Parlour on 3rd Stylist Robear Landeros:

Healthy Hair Mask:

The easiest, cheapest, and most effective hair mask secret known to stylists is mayonnaise. Who would have thought? Mayo is composed of egg yolk, lemon juice and vinegar, which can strengthen and moisturize your hair. Avoid commercial brands. Stick with organic for best results. Place a plastic bag over your hair after you apply. Leave it on for 30 minutes. If you don’t mind smelling like a ham sandwich, the end result is worth it!

From The Parlour on 3rd Master Stylist Josh Rosebrook:
A Wonderful Facial Exfoliator:

Start with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Olive oil is extremely moisturizing and rich in fatty acids. You can also try grapeseed oil, a potent source of vitamins C, D and E and fatty acids, which repair damaged skin. Add 1 tablespoon of sea salt. Sea salt is an extremely effective, natural exfoliant and sloughs off dead skin cells on the epidermis. Add 1 teaspoon of oatmeal. Oatmeal also gently removes dead skin cells, while softening and nourishing dry skin. Finally, add 1 teaspoon of raw honey. Raw honey is packed with enzymes, vitamins and minerals. Honey supports cell rejuvenation and also absorbs and retains moisture to give sensitive skin a healthy glow. Leave the exfoliant on your face for 10 to 15 minutes, allowing the nutrients to penetrate and the skin to soften.

At Home Facial Mask:

This is a chia seed and avocado nourishing mask. Chia seeds are packed with omega 3 fatty acids (the highest of any natural source, including Flax Seeds) and are very high in minerals. Mix 3 tablespoons of GROUND chia seeds and half of an organic avocado. Avocados are packed with vitamin E. Vitamin E is a powerhouse antioxidant for the skin, regenerating cells and jump starting collagen production – a process critical for anti-aging of the skin. Mix together and apply mask. Leave on for 10 to 45 minutes and rinse with tepid water. Your skin will be nourished and detoxed and will feel soft and smooth.

For A Simple Facial Hydrating Mask:

Combine organic aloe vera gel and raw honey. The raw honey will retain the moisture in the skin, while nourishing it with enzymes and minerals. Aloe vera gel is extremely powerful as an anti-inflammatory agent. High in fatty acids and minerals, aloe also heals scarring, evens out skin tone and protects the skin from environmental damage and dust. Apply this mask for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse with warm water.
