Makeup Tips from Sneaky Ways to Make Your Beauty Products Last Longer!

Beauty products are a little like our best friends—they’re fun and always there when we need a little pick-me-up. That’s why we love ‘em so much. Since some products come with pretty hefty price tags, Glamour rounded up some fab tips on how to get the most out of your favorite makeup products—straight from several genius beauty bloggers we know, including  Glamour’s own Girls in the Beauty Department!

Glamour gave 14 tips, I picked my favorites! See the other tips here!

Drop your purse and shatter one of your favorite products? Worry not, ladies: “If a shadow or pressed powder breaks…you can add a few drops of rubbing alcohol and press the pieces back together. The powder will reset in the product’s metal pan,” says Blitzer.

I love this one! If a hair conditioner is doing a “meh” job on your hair, don’t toss it just yet. “If I ever have a hair conditioner that isn’t doing the job, I use it as a shaving cream,” says Annie Tomlin, BellaSugar editor.

For bronzer that’s almost given its all—or isn’t quite the right shade to use on the face—“mix the remnants with a moisturizer to create a pretty, shimmery lotion and apply like a highlighter to arms and décolletage,” suggests Glamour’s own Susan Cernek.

Summer Makeup Tips!

The following are makeup tips for the summer from makeup artist Gayle Brewer, owner of Celia Caserta, Inc., Los Angeles.

Summer is officially here. And, it’s time for new looks in makeup.

Many women like bright colors for summer makeup, but I think less is more particularly for younger women and teens. I recommend that sticking to neutrals during hot summer months. Here are some makeup suggestions to achieve a fresh, sun-kissed look.

Pare an eggshell eye shadow such as Two Faced from Natural Eye Collection with dramatic, but not false, eye lashes. Get them using very dark mascara such as Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara. It is the darkest black I have found, it stays on longer, and it does not clump. To keep with the natural look, use brown eyeliner under the eyes. Try MAC Earthlink, it is a lighter shade that still adds depth to eyes.

Another good MAC product for a more dramatic night time look is Rapid Black Liquid for the upper lids. It is sharp, not messy. It works like a Sharpee so there is no need to keep dipping the applicator into the liquid which can make it difficult to form thin, uniform lines.

Go for pink shimmery cheeks, with the same color lipstick and gloss. Or, try NARS Orgasm Bronzer (Saphora) as a blush and lipstick. On cheeks, it makes skin look moist while giving it a healthy glow. And, the color is great for lips! It is very natural and its stays on longer than lipstick.

During the summer avoid heavy foundation. It will make you look too overdone on hot, humid days. A tinted moisturizer, the same color as your skin, will even out the skin tone, while looking natural. If you need more cover, use a little bit of regular foundation, not powder. MAC Face and Body—Beach Days looks nice or, if you need more staying power, try Laura Mercier products.

There are several types of body bronzers that work well for achieving a sun-kissed look. Hula Bronze body makeup has good staying power. Michael Kors Body Bronzer is little darker, making it nice for legs and arms. It is a deodorant-like stick so the application is easy for days at the beach.

These products all have sunblock in them but always remember to apply sunblock first thing in the morning and reapply if you go into the water or exercise.

Lea Michele’s look from the Nickelodean Kid’s Choice Awards

For Lea’s look, I wanted to keep her makeup simple yet flawless and classic. It had to compliment her hair and dress without overpowering it.

Lea has amazing bone structure so once she decided to keep the hair off her face in a simple ponytail, coupled with her gorgeous pink dress, we went for a “modern day” ballerina look.

I didn’t want a particular feature to stand out but instead I created an overall balanced look to celebrate her youth and beauty.

For her face, I wanted her complexion to be flawless and bright so I started by applying COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Concealer under her eyes to make sure she looked wide awake followed by an overall base of Giorgio Armani Luminous Foundation. Then, I applied Make Up For Ever HD powder to set the look followed by a highlighter. On Lea’s cheeks I started with COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Plush Peach to create a warm flush of color followed by Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder to father accentuate her cheekbones.

On the eyes, I wanted something natural, but still bold enough for the red carpet so I applied COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire on the lid and crease and the white shade of COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke to the browbone and inner corner of the eye. Next, I added COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers in Cafe Au Lait to darken the crease for a little more drama, followed by COVERGIRL Perfect Blend Eyeliner in Black/Brown. To Lengthen and define Lea’s gorgeous lashes I applied many coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Length Mascara in Black.

Since we decided to accentuate her eyes, I wanted to go more natural and just use a slight stain for her lips. I used Kevyn Aucoin Flesh Tone Lip Pencil followed by COVERGIRL Outlast Lipstain in Bit of Blossom.
