Taylor Swift on fashion, “There’s just something so feminine about a dress”

Taylor Swift graces Harper’s Bazaar’s December/January cover, and in the interview, she opens up about dating, relationships, her career, and more.

The hitmaker is as known for her girlish dresses as for her number-one songs. But, as she has proved, you don’t need to wear trousers to have power.

On wearing dresses: “I’m in a predicament where I can’t wear a dress twice or else it’s pointed out in magazines,” she says. “So unfortunately I have to shop for dresses all the time.” “There’s just something so feminine about a dress,” she says. “Whether it’s a summertime dress that makes me feel carefree, an evening cocktail dress that makes me feel fancy or a vintage dress that makes me feel like a ’50s housewife — which I enjoy feeling like, for some reason — I just really like dresses.”

On dating: “It needs to be equal. If I feel too much like I’m wearing the pants, I start to feel uncomfortable and then we break up.” Relationships are “the ultimate collaboration,” she adds, but sometimes “it’s wonderful to hand over the reins to your boyfriend when you control so much of these big, high-pressure decisions, you know? That is a huge defining factor in who you choose to be with.”

On relationships as a source of inspiration for her music: “Some combinations of people are toxic, you know? You have to find the right one that isn’t just going to explode into fiery ash and destruction.” “Despite all of that and how unpleasant it is, as a writer you get a lot from it. It’s a crazy justification system. You know that guy you really wish you could erase from your memory? But then the answer is track six, eight, 12, and 13.”

On being friends with celebrities including Emma Stone and Selena Gomez: “We never talk about fashion, about career, about our ambitions or our projects,” she says of her pals. “We just talk about relationships, feelings, love, and boys.”

Harper’s Bazaar’s December/January issue hits newsstands November 27.

Kate Hudson’s stunning October cover of Harper’s Bazaar!

From fame and family to a guest role on Glee, Kate Hudson has an easy elegance. In Harper’s Bazaar’s October issue, on newsstands September 25, the star opens up about her fiancé, Matt Bellamy, her sons, Ryder and Bing, her career, and more.

On meeting her fiancé, Matt Bellamy: Kate was drawn to him right away, she says, because “he was immediately very protective and, you know, watchful.”

“I Googled him right away! And it was shocking, ’cause he was like two completely different people.” Even after two months of dating, “I would still tell him, ‘I look at the footage of you playing, but getting to know you, I can’t connect the dots.’ ” She remembers the first time she saw him in concert, at a stadium in Paris. “I didn’t realize what I was walking into; I was just in awe of his ability and his talent. And then to know him on the other side of it, and how sweet and simple and loving he is.” She smiles. “You know how people say that when you meet somebody you love, you feel at home?”

At some point the two will get married, she says, but there’s no rush. “We’ll do it eventually, but I want it to be right. I don’t want to just do it, you know what I mean?”

She and Bellamy have bought a house in London, with the intention of shuttling between there and L.A. “It’s two very different lifestyles, but I feel really lucky to be able to expose the kids to both. But it takes planning, and for somebody like me who wants to fly by the seat of my pants all the time. … I can be such a gypsy, but with the kids in school, I’m learning how to be more organized.”

Kate’s good friend Gwyneth Paltrow has been Gooping it up for her with the London setup. “She’s been my go-to about where to get things done—grocery shopping, a good mani-pedi, you know, all that.” She continues, “I look up to Gwyneth and how she has been in her life. She’s the real deal.”

Fashion credits: On the newsstand cover, Kate wears a Ralph Lauren Collection gown, and earrings by Harry Winston. On the subscriber cover, she showcases a headpiece by Armani Privé. Inside, she makes a grand entrance in a red Valentino Haute Couture gown, and showcases haute couture looks by Chanel, Dior, Gaultier Paris and Givenchy.

Miranda Kerr poses nude in September’s Harper’s Bazaar!

Miranda Kerr poses completely nude in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar (which features Gwen Stefani on the cover). Miranda posed for the magazine wearing only a pair of boots!

Even though the Victoria’s Secret model appears nude in the magazine, she still opened up about her fashion faves. Miranda, who’s married to Orlando Bloom, also opened up about diet and staying balanced.

On her style icons: ”I have always admired Audrey Hepburn’s style and my Nan has always been a style icon for me. Growing up I would play in her wardrobe and was very influenced by her. She taught me that you don’t need to have a lot of money to have style. It’s the way you put things together and how you carry yourself.”

On her diet philosophy: ”I live by the philosophy that beauty starts from within and I make a conscious effort to fill my body with nutrients through the food I eat. Becoming a mother has made me even more aware and more passionate about nutrition and wellness. So much so that I am now a certified health coach practitioner. I love when we are all together as a family and I can cook really healthy, delicious meals for them. Most of my childhood was spent outdoors climbing trees, swimming in the river, riding dirt bikes and horses and I would like Flynn to experience all of those things.”

On her taste for adventure: ”I definitely still love motorbikes; however, since having Flynn I haven’t been riding these days. A lot of my adventures come from chasing Flynn around and watching him grow.”

On staying balanced: ”I believe in having a vision for the future but living each day at a time. Time seems to slow down for me when I focus on staying in the moment and that helps me maintain a sense of balance. When I’m with Flynn my phone is switched off and I stay away from my laptop. It means the time I do spend with him is quality time. Life seems to be busy for most people and if you know you are doing the best you can then there really is nothing more you can do than that.”

Kate Moss covers June’s Harper’s Bazaar

Kate Moss covers June’s Harper’s Bazaar. The pictures, shot by Terry Richardson, are beautiful, but a bit boring if you ask me.

I think my favorite is the one below, with Kate standing in the ocean. According to Harper’s Bazaar, Kate is “modeling the best of the collections on location in Jamaica.”
