Get the Look: Scarlett Johansson’s Old Hollywood Updo for the Golden Globes

Golden Globe Award Presenter Scarlett Johansson looked extraordinary on the red carpet tonight. Wearing a sparkling blush-colored Elie Saab gown, her dazzling, sculpted updo was softly glamourous in a new, very modern way.

Influenced by glamour of 40’s Hollywood and the sophisticated photographs of 40’s and 50’s fashion photographer, Lillian Bassman, Vetica took red carpet hair to elegant new heights. Inspired by the flowing lightness of Scarlett Johansson’s gown, Vetica created an updo that blended softness, movement, direction and a new sculptural shape.

“To create a feeling of movement and volume at the back of the head and height at the crown I started by blowdrying her hair with Moroccanoil® Treatment to smooth her texture and ensure shine and flexibility. I directed the hair back and away from her face and brought it back to the nape of her neck, and then up and towards the crown.

Next, I curled small sections of hair starting at the nape of the neck and up towards the crown using a 1Ž2 inch curling iron. Once I reached the crown, I curled the hair back from her face.

When I finished, Scarlett had a tight set of curls throughout her hair, all directed up and towards the crown. I then gave thecurls a good spray of Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray to set.

To finish, I vigorously brushed the hair through, again directing it up and away from the face, up from the neck towards the crown.

I then gave the whole look a well-defined backcomb to create a directional shape –- again bringing the hair up and away. Then, I gave the entire look a spray of Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray. It not only holds the hair, it leaves it with a soft, movable hold which was essential to make this look work.

I then attached two 1934 Flammes brooches worn as hair clips (round and baguette diamonds set in platinum) from the Van Cleef& Arpels Private Collection to round off the look by keeping the sides of her hair close to her head and to pick up the 40’s vibe of her dress.

Finally, I gently brushed through the top of the hair to smooth out the curls and gave it a wave. I finished by backcombing at the root of the crown for height.. I sprayed the hair with Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray again to set the look and finished with Moroccanoil® Glimmer Shine Spray for natural-looking shine.

Get Julianne Moore’s Golden Globes look!

Julianne Moore looked radiant last night on the red carpet of the Golden Globe Awards in a dazzling pink, Lanvin dress. Nominated for Best Actress in The Kids Are All Right, her co-star Annette Benning took home the prize for the same film. Moore’s flawless makeup was created by Pati Dubroff, Clarins Celebrity Beauty Artist. A fuchsia dress on a red head can be difficult to match makeup to, but Dubroff chose to stay within the pink family creating contrasting hues on the eye lids (soft pink) and deep, rich blackberry on the lips.

Skin:
Dubroff started with Clarins Instant Smooth Line Correcting Concentrate to fill any fine lines on the skin and create an even canvas. She then applied the Instant Light Complexion Perfector in Rose Shimmer along her cheekbones for glowing skin that did not cover her freckles. Next, she swept a small amount of Blush Prodige in Miami Pink on the apples of her cheeks.

Eyes:
Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base was the foundation of the soft eye look, which not only helps pigment last all night but makes the color richer on the skin tone. Next, she used the pale pink eye shadow from Clarins new Neo Pastels Eye Palette and sculpted the eye using a matte taupe shade from the Pro Palette Eye Brow Kit. Competing the look was many coats of Wonder Perfect Mascara in Black.

Lips:
Berry stained lips, that looked like she just sipped a glass of wine were achieved without liner, but by dabbing on Clarins Rouge Prodige in Blackberry with the fingers.

Best Dressed at last night’s Golden Globe Awards!

There’s a lot of talk this morning about who looked the best and who looked the worst at last night’s Golden Globes. I agreed and disagreed – so I decided to make my own list! Here are my Top 10 Best Dressed from last night’s Golden Globe Awards! Vote with me – and see if you agree! (Do you think someone should have made my list that I didn’t mention? It was hard for me to pick my Top Ten – because most all of the ladies looked amazing last night! I think my #1 favorite was Emma Stone. Celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey did Lancôme ambassador Kate Winslet’s makeup and gave us the scoop on the makeup she used. Jillian wanted to play up Kate’s eyes, cheeks and lips. She used Jillian Dempsey for Avon Professional Kohl Eyeliner in Black on the upper lash line first and then applied dark brown eyeliner and smudged it on the lower lashes. Next, she lightly dusted Lancôme Color Design Eye Shadow in Chic on the eyelid.

To make Kate’s eyes pop, she added a few coats of Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black. Next, Jillian added some color to the apples of the cheeks by custom blending several shades of coral, peachy blushes together. Jillian opted for a classic red lip and finished the look with Avon Pro-to-Go Lipstick in Cherry Glisten. Kate looked stunning as she accepted the first award of the night for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Reader!
