Golden Globe worthy manicures with Sally Hansen!

At the 70th annual Golden Globes, glamorous nails were the ultimate accessory. Three of the night’s biggest stars –Naomi Watts, Jennifer Lawrence and singer Adele — manicurists turned to Sally Hansen to create their signature nail looks for the red carpet.

Naomi Watts
Celebrity nail expert Tracey Sutter created the look for Watts, nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture–Drama. Tracey used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Arm Candy to create a natural effect.
To get the look, Sutter filed down Naomi’s nails very short before applying Sally Hansen’s Cuticle Instant Remover. Next, Sutter applied 2 coats of Sally Hansen’s new Complete Salon Manicure Nail Color in Arm Candy – giving Watts just the right amount of color she wanted.

Jennifer Lawrence
April Foreman was the expert behind Lawrence’s nail look, using Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sheer Ecstasy for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture–Comedy or Musical nominee.
To get the look, Foreman shaped Lawrence’s nails “sqound” giving both a square and round look. Keeping her hands hydrated, Foreman applied Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect Hand Crème before applying 2 coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sheer Ecstasy.

Adele
Celebrity Manicurist, Kimmie Kyees used on Adele a sheer coat of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in So Much Fawn with two coats of Complete Salon Manicure in Copper Penny layered on top. Kyees finished off the look with an exclusive topcoat created for tonight that had gold in it to help enhance the color in Copper Penny for the best Original Song, Film nominee.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure is an all-in-one formula that combines all the 7 benefits of a professional salon manicure—a base coat, a strengthener, a growth treatment, rich color, top coat, gel-like shine and chip resistance —in a single multi-tasking polish ($7.99).

Get The Look: Claire Danes at the 2013 Golden Globes.

Claire Danes looked gorgeous last night! It’s shocking she had a baby just a few weeks ago she looked amazing.

Claire Danes 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards January 13, 2013

Makeup:

Claire Danes’ gorgeous and glamorous Laura Mercier makeup look from this evening’s Golden Globe Awards. Matin Maulawizada, Global Artistry Director for Laura Mercier, created a “sexy, fun look” for “Homeland” star, Claire Danes, who is nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the “Best Performance by An Actress in a Television Series – Drama” category.

Eyes: Maulawizada determined that a sultry, smoky eye would perfectly complement the star’s glamorous, red Versace dress. “I decided to go with a smoky eye and not a red lip since the dress was so red,” stated Maulawizada.

  • Maulawizada accomplished this by applying Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Liner in Black ($22) on Danes’ top lids and under her eyes “to create depth and shape.”
  • Next he applied Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eye Liner in Black Ebony ($22) with Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner Brush ($25) to “deepen the lash line.” He then rimmed the inside of the eyes using Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Black Gold ($20) to “intensify the depth and to create a contrast with Claire’s blue eyes.”
  • Maulawizada added the final touch of glamour by applying multiple coats of Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara ($24) to Claire’s upper lashes.

Lips: Maulawizada used neutral colours to “contour the lips” and make them appear “pouty, à la an early ‘90s supermodel pout.”

  • He first defined the lips using Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Hazelnut ($20).
  •  Then he contoured and shaded in the lips with Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Praline ($20).
  • Lastly he applied Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Angelic ($26) to make the colour a “bit more beige and quiet.”

Face: Maulawizada determined that “glowy, warm skin” would be the perfect canvas for Danes’ sultry makeup look.

  • First, he applied Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Crème Compact SPF 20 in Almond ($45) to warm up Claire’s skin tone.
  • Next he sparingly used Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage #3 ($30) to “cover up little imperfections and darkness under the eyes, which she really doesn’t have.”
  • On her cheeks, Maulawizada applied Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Blaze ($24) followed by Laura Mercier Bonne Mine Palette ($48) to “highlight, bronze and make her even more glowy.”
  • Lastly he used a combination of Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent ($35) and Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder ($22) to set Claire’s makeup and concealer.
  • To ensure Danes glowed from head to toe, Maulawizada applied Laura Mercier Mineral Illuminating Powder in Candlelight ($32) over Laura Mercier Repair Eye Serum ($80) on Claire’s shoulders and arms.

Hair:

Celebrity hairstylist Peter Butler created Claire Danes’ look for tonight’s Golden Globes in Los Angeles. Taking inspiration from the Homeland actress’ red-hot Versace gown, Butler gave Claire sexy, loose waves, likening her to a modern-day Jessica Rabbit.

Step 1 – Prep
Blowdry hair with a large, round, boar bristle brush. Take a curling iron with a 1 1/2 inch barrel and start curling hair section by section. Set the curls with Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hairspray ($5.99 at drugstores).

Step 2 – Style
To create the perfect wave, use a paddle brush to brush through curls. Apply Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Crème ($5.99 at drugstores) throughout the hair–it will soften hair and add shine while leaving the curls chunky and intact.

Step 3 – Perfect
Finish by adding a fine mist of Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray to lock in the style.

Get The Look: Jessica Alba & Emily Blunt at the 2013 Golden Globes

One’s an English rose and the other’s a Californian bombshell but Emily Blunt and Jessica Alba had at least one thing in common at the 70th Golden Globe Awards last night—they both wore makeup by Hourglass. As the final touch to their looks, each actress sported Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, a cutting-edge finishing powder launching this spring.

EMILY BLUNT
In a gilded dress by Michael Kors, Emily Blunt more than lived up to her reputation as a Hollywood golden girl. The actress, nominated in the Best actress, Musical or Comedy category for Salmon Fishing In The Yemen, “definitely had something in mind as far as the look,” says makeup artist Jenn Streicher. “Emily wanted smoky eyes paired with soft pink lips that echoed her Lorraine Schwartz ruby earrings.”

Skin: Jenn began by using Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Face Serum, La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream and La Mer Eye Concentrate. She then primed the skin with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, and followed with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Ivory. She used two shades of Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer: Fair, a light shade, was used around the nose and as a highlighter, and Sand, a slightly darker shade, was applied under the eyes. Jenn completed the skin by applying the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light all over the complexion. Available in six different lighting settings, Ambient delivers a multi-dimensional luminescence to the complexion by capturing, diffusing and softening surrounding light. “It softens and enhances everything,” says Jenn.

Cheeks: Jenn applied Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer all over the face and neck to create a radiant glow. She then used the bronzer shade from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to contour the cheeks and jaw line. The blush shade from Illume was applied onto the cheekbones.

Eyes: She started by lining eyes with Hourglass Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in Espresso and softened the line with a brush. Jenn then applied the shell shimmer shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy as a highlight on the brow bone and followed with a matte brown eye shadow on the lid. Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara was applied to the lashes to volumize, lengthen and separate them. She then amplified the brows with Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette.

Lips: Lips were infused with a beautiful wash of color courtesy of Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Edition, a soft pink shimmer.

JESSICA ALBA
On Sunday’s red carpet Jessica Alba looked stunning in tangerine. The glamorous mother of two, a presenter at the awards ceremony, wore a gorgeous peach-colored gown by Oscar de la Renta. “The dress was the inspiration,” says makeup artist Lauren Andersen. “I loved the contrast between her glowing skin and the matte orange lip. It’s an almost tropical pop of color that’s not an exact match for the dress but close.”

Skin: Lauren prepped the skin with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, and followed with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand. She then used Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer in Warm under the eyes, down the bridge of the nose and fanned the product out in the center of the forehead to create dimension. She finished the skin step with the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light applied all over to create a golden, subtle warmth. “It’s a soft, refined shimmer that’s glowy,” says Lauren.

Cheeks: She used the bronze shade from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to contour the cheeks and followed with the blush shade on the apples of the cheeks.

Eyes: Hourglass Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in Espresso was first applied to the outer corners of the eyes and then smudged it with a brush. Lauren then applied Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer in the crease of the eyes and the gold shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Dune on the lids. Lashes were treated to several coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara. She finished up by amplifying the brows with Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette.

Lips: Finally, Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera, a vibrant tangerine shade, was applied to the lips. The velvety matte color delivers richly pigmented and long-lasting coverage for up to 14 hours.

Get The Look: Julianne Hough at the Golden Globes 2013

Julianne Hough Golden Globes 2013

Products: UNITE Blonda Shampoo ($26.25), BLONDA Condition ($28.75), 7SECONDS Condition ($26.25), EXPANDA Volume ($27.50), Pro-System 74mm Round Brush, EXPANDA Dust ($26.25), Session Max Hairspray ($29.95).
Available at Unitehair.com.

Overview: Texture and volume were the key elements of Julianne Hough’s hair created by stylist Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One Salon.

PREP
1.) Julianne’s Hair was prepped with UNITE’s Blonda Shampoo & Condition to brighten the tone of Julianne’s blonde hair for the special event and followed with a ton of UNITE 7SECONDS Condition. UNITE 7Seconds was used to not only detangle and condition the hair, but the extreme amount helped to make the hair super clean and slippery to ensure that some hair fell out to add to the final edginess of the look.
2.) For maximum root volume, UNITE EXPANDA Volume was applied 1-3 inches from the roots.
3.) Hair was then round brushed with a UNITE Pro-System 74mm Round brush.
4.) Once hair was dry, UNITE EXPANDA Dust was sprinkled throughout the root area on the top of the head
5.) Starting in the back, Riawna used small, horizontal sections on the top of the head, backcombing the hair 1-2 inches from scalp to create instant volume. She then continued forward to the hairline leaving out the final front section. The final backcombed “mohawk” was clipped out of the way.

SIDES
6.) The sides were slightly teased throughout for added texture and volume.
7.) A soft, natural parting in the hair was made on both sides near the temple area.
8.) Each side was split into a top and bottom section. Each section was twisted into the back towards the nape, made into a mini ponytail and pinned.

TOP
9.) Starting with the front 3 inches of the top section, Riawna twisted the hair over towards the left and pinned in place. The second section was then alternated to twist toward the right side and pinned in place. The alternating sections continued until the top section was complete creating a “twisted mohawk”.
10.) Once hair was set in the general form, she sprinkled UNITE EXPANDA Dust on areas that still need more texture, pulled the hair slightly with fingers and rubbed together to create whispy strands
11.) The look was finished with UNITE SESSION-Max Hairspray for extra strong hold to last all evening.
12) UNITE SHINA-Mist was applied for overall red-carpet shine

Quotes from Riawna Capri, Nine Zero One Salon:
“Sheek, Edgy and sophisicated”
“Julianne ’s dress was so beautiful and glamorous, we wanted to add a bit of edge with the hair and makeup to give a slight contrast that created the final overall look.”
