Get The Look: Selena Gomez’s Sleek Hair with John Frieda Hair Care

2013 MTV Video Music Awards - Red Carpet

Glitz and glamour took the MTV Video Music Awards’ red carpet by storm last night and Selena’s look was no exception. Hairstylist Lona Vigi created a sleek style for the brunette beauty that complemented her chic yet risqué corset top Versace dress.

To recreate this look, follow these steps from Lona using products from John Frieda Frizz-Ease.

To begin, Lona combined John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Original Formula ($9.99 at drugstores) with Straight Fixation Smoothing Crème ($6.99 at drugstores) to wet hair. This cocktail gave Selena’s hair a silky smooth straight look that not only kept frizz at bay throughout the long night, but also helped to impart a shine that lasts.

Using the Harry Josh Pro Tools Pro Dryer 2000, Lona blew Selena’s hair out straight as the base for her style. Lona recommends to flip the hair over and concentrate on drying at the root in order to keep the look from falling.

Sectioning off the hair, Lona then blew each section dry, with an Ibiza round brush to create a little body.

After the hair is completely dry, John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Crème ($6.99 at drugstores) was applied to create a silky, shiny finish.

Lastly, Lona’s trick for any strays and long-lasting finish – Using the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray ($5.99 at drugstores), spray a small amount on an clean mascara wand and glide over the front sections that frame the face and comb the hair outwards along your part. This is a great trick to rid your look of any stray or fly away hairs.

InStyle Celebrity Beauty Tip: Emma Robert’s Gorgeous Mod Eye Makeup

InStyle Get The Look: Mod Eye Makeup
Perhaps we’re inspired by the swingin’ sixties fashion of Mad Men, but the mod-inspired makeup Emma Roberts wore to the Intermix 20th anniversary party looks like something Megan Draper would pair with her printed shift dresses—save for the modern pop of color. “The real mod eyes used mostly black and white to create a graphic look, but when you play around with color like blue and white, it makes the effect quirkier, softer, and easier to wear for summer,” said Roberts’ makeup artist Nick Barose, who created the look with a double-ended blue and white liner. He lined the star’s upper lash line with the cerulean end, smudged the color with a cotton swab, then ran the white color along Roberts’ waterline. In addition to the mod effect it imparts, white eyeliner also gives you a more-awake appearance by creating the illusion of bigger eyes. If white seems too harsh for you, ease into the trend by using a flesh-toned eyeliner instead, and be sure to work with a sharpened pencil as dull products can tug at your eye. Apply the color before sweeping on mascara—unlike black eyeliner, white tends to be more obvious if it gets on your bottom lashes.
