2014 MTV Video Music Awards - Red Carpet

Iggy Azalea’s Slick Look:
You can’t go anywhere without hearing her name or one of her songs – Iggy Azalea has dominated the music world this year with pop hits and epic music videos (she even recreated Clueless!). Tonight, she dominated the red carpet with a slicked back, smooth and sleek style that complemented her custom metallic Versace gown.

Her chic, modern style was created by Celebrity Stylist Sami Knight, who wanted a sleek look to take her from the red carpet to center stage.

Whether you’re hitting a red carpet or just out for a night on the town, here are Sami’s tips to get this ultra glam look at home:

1. Spray Herbal Essences Tea-Lightfully Clean Blow Dry Prep Mist on freshly washed hair from root to tip
2. Work Herbal Essences Naked Volumizing Soufflé at the roots to add a boost of volume
3. Section the hair and blow dry each section smooth with a paddle brush
4. Take the top section and blow dry smooth with a round brush to create more volume
5. Lightly tease underneath the top section with a tail comb for extra fullness
6. Then, take a soft brush and sweep the top section back away from the face

Jessie J’s Sleek and Shiny VMAs Style
Jessie J is no stranger to defining and redefining herself, both with her music and her looks. This British beauty is currently topping the charts with the can’t-stop-singing pop sensation, Bang Bang, and continues to experiment with her favorite accessory – her hair.

After shaving her head for charity last year, Jessie J took to the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet with smooth, straight locks and a deep center part. Celebrity stylist Alisha Dobson created this sleek style to complement Jessie’s ethereal dress and natural makeup before she hits the stage for an epic opening performance.

To get Jessie’s frizz-free, glossy locks at home, here are Alisha’s tips to recreate this look:

1. Spray the Herbal Essences Honey, I’m Strong Silkening Spray on wet hair
2. Create a deep center part blow dry hair straight with a flat paddle brush
3. Mist the Herbal Essences Set Me Up Heat Protection Spray over the hair
4. Then, use a flat iron to smooth and straighten small sections until the whole head is complete
5. Lightly spray the Herbal Essences Naked Sheer Shine Mist over the part. Then, spray a bit onto your hands and work through the ends
6. Tuck the front sections of hair behind the ears
7. Tame flyaways and finish the look with a touchable hold with the Herbal Essences Naked Flexible Hold Spritzer.

Get The Look: Katy Perry and Becky G. at the 2014 VMA’s

2014 MTV Video Music Awards - Backstage & Audience

So what did you think of Katy Perry and Riff Raff’s homage to Britney and Justin in the all denim outfits?

Katy Perry Beauty Look by Jake Bailey:
Katy Perry’s VMA look tonight was quintessential Katy. Bright red lips, black liquid liner and big lashes. I first prepped her skin and then matched her skin tone to COVERGIRL’s Ready, Set Gorgeous Foundation in Warm Beige and began by buffing a thin layer all over her face and neck using a flat tipped, soft bristled kabuki style brush for a seamless airbrushed effect. I highlighted her under eye area and cheekbones with Ready, Set, Gorgeous Concealer in light/medium.

I began her eye makeup by blending a warm brown shadow, Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Scorching Cocoa into the crease of her eyelids and a pearlescent white shadow Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Blazing White onto her eyelid and browbone for highlights. I also dusted some of that same pearlescent shadow onto the ridge of her cheekbones for an extra glow. I then created a sharp jet black cat eye using Bombshell Intensity Liner. I finished the eye look with several coats of Bombshell Volume Mascara.

I then sculpted her cheekbones using the darker shade from the COVERGIRL’s Clean Glow Blush compact and added warmth to the apples of her cheeks with the paler peachier shades in the compact.

I completed the look by lining her lips with LipPerfection Lip Liner in Hot and the matching LipPerfection Lip Color shade in Hot 305. I topped the lipstick with a coat of Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Crystal Flame for a metallic sheen. Just before she left I dusted her with a touch of Ready, Set, Gorgeous Powder in light/medium to keep her looking fresh for the red carpet.

Becky G. Beauty Look by Sarah Uslan:
Becky G.I started with the COVERGIRL Ready, Set Gorgeous Concealer and Foundation, which has powder built-in to help fight shine. I used the concealer in a V shape under her eyes to give them a bit of a lift before putting the foundation over – adding to the flawless overall look of her skin. Then I used bronzing powder to contour her cheekbones and also on the forehead and neck area to warm her skin tone plus Classic Color Blush in Silk Roses on the apples of her cheeks. Then I set the whole look with powder.

To bring in the silver in the studs on her skirt, I used the creamy Bombshell Shine Shadow in Ice Queen. It has these reflective pigments so your eyes dazzle when the light hits your face. Then with the Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Molten Black, I created a V from the outside edge of the lash line and going into the crease and blending inward. For shadow, I used Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadows in Drama Eyes and blended that all in. To finish off the look, I used the Bombshell Intensity Liner to create a bigger-than-normal, 60’s-inspired cat eye and layered on thee coats of Clump Crusher Mascara on the top lashes and one coat on the bottom. You get a ton of volume, and you can layer it on without clumps – perfect for touch-ups throughout the night. I also used a little dab of the silver shadow on the inner corner of the eye for a pop of shimmery color there.

For lips, we wanted something with a great color payout and also lustrous vibrant shine for the carpet, so we went with Colorlicious Lip Gloss in Berrylicious. For a while, matte lips were a big trend but gloss is definitely having a moment and is back in a big way!
