Scarlett Johansson talks beauty and being the face of Dolce & Gabbana

We’ve been gushing over this fab video starring Scarlett Johansson spilling the beans about working on the new ads for Dolce & Gabbana’s new makeup collection.

In the footage the very charming Miss Johansson reveals her own beauty preferences; “When I do red-carpet events, I always try to be inspired by Old Hollywood glamour, whether that’s Rita Hayworth or Lauren Bacall,” she confesses, “so I like to take a lot of looks, especially from that period, but also keep it modern and fresh.” – Although we think we won’t be the only ones to notice more than a passing resemblance to Marilyn Monroe in the clip.

She also sweetly praises the team on the shoot. Dolce & Gabbana being Dolce & Gabbana, they don’t do anything by halves – they’ve only used world famous makeup artist Pat McGrath – “[she] keeps everyone hysterical on set” -

And hairstylist Oribe – “a master, of course, and his finger are like styling tools”, and king of campaign photography Solve Sundsbo – “[he is] just absolutely sweet and couldn’t make me feel more comfortable. ”

Aaah – the old team back together (they all worked on last season’s campaign as well). In the past she’s represented Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein as well as Moet et Chandon champagne and currently she balances her Dolce & Gabbana work with being the poster girl for Spanish brand MANGO.

Phew! If anyone seems to be bucking the trend for models to take back the bulk of the campaign work from celebrities, it’s her.

And the designers have obviously got a special place in their hearts for the ingénue, as they even named a lipstick after her -

“One of the things that we shot for the new collection is a red lipstick”. She murmured. “When we were putting it on I said, ‘This is a gorgeous colour, what’s it called?’ And it turns out that it’s actually called Scarlett, which is very charming, for me.”

D&G and Scarlett Johansson unveil new lipstick line.

Bouquet for the lips. A year after it was launched Dolce & Gabbana’s make-up line is boasting a new lipstick collection, The Roses, whose five girly to sexy tones (Shine On, Baby Darling, Magnifica, Scarlett, and Fascination) shall give your spring beauty routine a little Scarlett va-va-voom.

Pat McGrath concocted the colors, spanning from an apricot-peach tint for Shine On to a deep pink for Fascination. There’s also a nude pink named Baby Darling and an intense mauve red named Magnifica. But for the traditional rose color, pick Scarlett, inspired by the classic color and named after Scarlett Johansson, the face of the collection.

To debut their luxe cosmetics brand, The Makeup, Dolce & Gabbana would settle for nothing less than one of Hollywood’s modern muses. And when it came time to launch their new scent Rose The One, they turned again to Scarlett Johansson. The actress couldn’t be happier with the appropriately rose-hued results, which were shot by Jean Baptiste Mondino, explaining in a statement that Mondino and designers “capture all of a woman’s graces, our quiet moments. That to me, is what makes this campaign so special, and it feel wonderful to have been a part of the collaboration.” The floral fragrance, which is the final launch in The One trilogy of scents for the Italian designers, will debut next month with prices starting at $60 for a 30 ml eau de parfum spray.

She may have been in one of the world’s most romantic cities, but it was no lazy Sunday for Scarlett Johansson, who joined Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana yesterday at department store La Rinscente in Milan to launch the design duo’s debut color collection, The Make Up. And as the face of the much-anticipated line, Scarlett drew a buzz-worthy crowd. WWD reports that more than 1,000 fans turned up to get a glimpse of the design stars and their muse. And the actress, who has also modeled for Louis Vuitton, revealed to reporters that posing for the ultra-glam campaign was all about using her acting talent to channel a persona, “And who doesn’t want to look like the femme fatales from the Forties and Fifties?” she said. Yesterday’s launch wasn’t the only Dolce & Gabbana event creating a stir. On Friday, a coterie of Hollywood fashionistas including Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, Freida Pinto and, of course, Scarlett hit the label’s runway show and VIP lounge, and tonight even more stars plan to turn out for an exclusive Extreme Beauty in Vogue launch party for the event.
Look at her shoes! I haven’t seen those before…hmmm.

As excited as we were to hear that Dolce & Gabbana is launching a fabulous new makeup collection, we were even more excited to hear that Scarlett Johansson would be the face of the campaign. The blonde beauty was shot by Solve Sundsbo in London, in a series of shots meant to evoke Marilyn Monroe’s iconic beauty.

Scarlett Johansson is the face of the new Dolce & Gabbana line of cosmetics, the Italian designing duo has revealed.

“Scarlett is sure of herself. She’s a beautiful girl, but she’s really easygoing. She is very Dolce & Gabbana.”

The Golden Globe-nominated actress was recently photographed for a series of sexy Marilyn Monroe-inspired print ads slated to debut on the pages of Fashion Bibles later this year.

“We see makeup as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the makeup line like we work on a clothing collection — you can change makeup like you can change your clothes, depending on your mood,” Stefano Gabbana told WWD on Friday.

The lipsticks will be scented with rose, Gabbana explained. “We wanted to create makeup with a scent. Domenico and I remember when we were children and opened our mother’s handbags — the scent of her lipstick trailed out. I observed that when women open makeup, they smell it first.”

Prices will range from $20 for nail lacquer to $59 for powder foundation.

D&G Makeup will launch this Spring.
