Pink named the newest face of CoverGirl!

Pink has just been named the newest face of CoverGirl! She follows in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, Sofia Vergara, Drew Barrymore, Ellen Degeneres and Queen Latifah. Pink Tweeted the news by posting this picture, saying “Guess who’s the new COVERGIRL!!!!!!!!!!!”

The CoverGirls had better look out — there’s a tough new girl in town. Pink was named the newest face of the beauty brand Monday, joining Taylor Swift, Sofia Vergara, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres and Queen Latifah (plus two Olympic stars).

“Joining a group of women who have always inspired me — to laugh out loud, let my guard down, or play around with my beauty look — is such an honor,” the singer says in a release. “I have a lot to celebrate. I called my new album The Truth About Love, and the truth is that I have my beautiful family and baby girl, my new music and now my partnership with CoverGirl to love.”

“Pink is a powerful and provocative role model, who has always been an advocate of individualism and making no apologies for who you are,” adds CoverGirl vice president and general manager Esi Eggleston Bracey. “We love the energy and confidence that she radiates, and the fact that inside and out she’s as cool as she looks. She’s an awesome addition to our CoverGirl family.”

Going hand-in-hand with that image, Pink will first promote what the brand is touting as a “bold new mascara innovation,” and celebrate “beauty with an edge” through all of her campaigns. Her first ads will debut this fall.

I’ve been reading a lot about how Pink’s not a “traditional” choice for CoverGirl. Why’s that? Because she’s not beautiful enough? Not girly enough? I’m not the world’s biggest Pink fan, but I think she makes a great spokesperson for CG. The 33-year-old will do really well, I believe.

CoverGirl released a statement on the new pairing. “With the signing of Pink, COVERGIRL is celebrating ‘Beauty with an Edge’ and who better to deliver that message than someone who embodies art and attitude. Pink and COVERGIRL are looking to inspire women to celebrate their individuality and never settle for a single beauty standard.”

What do you think about CG picking Pink to be the new face of their line? Good choice?

PICS: Taylor Swift goes brunette!

Taylor Swift debuted a much-darker ‘do in her new CoverGirl campaign pictures, titled “See You, Be You”.

It was that Vogue editorial, in part, that inspired Swift to get more adventurous with her look. “I was so excited to be shooting the cover of Vogue that I let them cut bangs for me at the shoot,” she recently told Refinery29. “It turned out to be one of my favorite changes I’ve ever made to my hair. Moral of the story: Always trust Vogue.”

Indeed. Brunette is an even bolder change than bangs, we think, but a good one. As much as she claims to “experiment as much as I can with fashion and makeup looks,” Swift has been fairly loyal to her blonde hair-red lip-black eyeliner combo for some time. So it’s nice to see the young star switch things up…

Natural Makeup Look With the Help of COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm!

I (Jocelyn) am not a huge fan of heavy makeup. Very rarely will I put a lot of eye makeup on. If I do – I’m going out with the girls, or out on the town with my husband. Other than that, I opt for a more natural look. One thing I’m NEVER a huge fan of, is lipstick. For me, I just don’t like the feel of it on my lips. I know Erin likes lipstick, but she has much better lips than I do! (Time to try lip injections? I kid, I kid.)

When we were asked to go out and purchase a COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm to review, I knew I was the one for the job. I picked two shades. First I grabbed “Grenache, Grenache”, #235. I love it! It’s a shimmery – mauve color. Slightly darker than my lips. Second, I picked “Clay Argile”, #260, which is pictured below. I am in LOVE with this color. It’s a beautiful pinkish/pearly color that looks very natural. My husband took this picture of me (above) wearing it. It’s natural and beautiful, and I love it! It completes my natural makeup look beautifully.

What I did for my makeup here, was started with a shadow primer. Then I topped it with a baby pink eyeshadow – all over my eyelid. Then, using a eyeliner brush I applied rose colored eyeshadow along my lashes – as an eyeliner. I lightly blended the two colors in, and finished it off with a coat of black mascara. I then chose COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in the shade “Clay Argile” or #260 (see below). I think it all goes together really well!  I think it’s a really beautiful way to wear your makeup this spring!

MUST SEE: This Taylor Swift CoverGirl Mascara ad was banned!

Take a look at this new ad by CoverGirl. Can you figure out why the US’s National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus Claims (NAD) has chosen to ban it?

Excessive photoshopping!

Business Insider reports that the NAD has banned print ads for CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara, including the spots featuring celeb spokesmodel Taylor Swift. According to the NAD, the ads made “superior performance claims” such as “2X more volume” and “20 percent lighter” that simply couldn’t be substantiated.

The NAD specifically noted that the Swift ad had a disclaimer printed on the bottom that clearly stated, “lashes enhanced in post production.”

“You can’t use a photograph to demonstrate how a cosmetic will look after it is applied to a woman’s face and then — in the mice type — have a disclosure that says ‘okay, not really,’ ” NAD director Andrea Levine told Business Insider.

I think it’s about time something was done about this. This issue of false advertising has bothered me for YEARS. As beauty bloggers, Erin and I are CONSTANTLY being sent products to try out with the promise of this – and that. We see the ads, we read all the claims of “longer lashes” or “fuller lashes” and 9 times out of 10, nothing ever really lives up to the promise! It has gotten to the point (with me) that I really don’t pay much attention to beauty ads at all, because who really believes that stuff anymore? Don’t we all just see it as fake?

Maybelline was made to address an similar Photoshop issue earlier this year, when an ad for its anti-aging “Eraser” product used Photoshop instead of the product itself to erase spokesmodel Christy Turlington’s dark circles. Britain’s ASA banned the ad for misleading consumers.

In fact, Business Insider notes that in banning the Taylor Swift spot, the NAD is specifically trying to follow the ASA’s lead. Does that mean we should expect a banned-ad-of-the-week in the US to match Great Britain? Could this be the end of Photoshopping Disasters?

I’m really happy something is finally being done about this trend in advertising. You should not be able to photoshop results.  The UK has been banning ads for years, and they take a much more critical stand on false advertising. Hopefully the U.S. will crack down on ads here as strongly!
