CoverGirl gets ready for football season in style!

o-FOOTBALL-COVERGIRL-MAKEUP-570

CoverGirl has revealed an exclusive first look at their New York Giants #GameFace to Huffington Post, and we’re kind of LOVING it!

As the official beauty sponsor of the NFL, the cosmetics brand created 32 makeup looks so that fans can represent whether they’re watching the games on their couches or sitting near the 50 yard line.

Giants fans wearing head-to-toe red, white and blue can easily look tacky. However, the combination of colors used here blend exceptionally well into a graphic, winged eye and bold red lip.

If I attempted this look – they’d probably lock me up somewhere. Can you imagine actually trying this makeup in real life? :) I think you can pull it off…… if you’re a supermodel. :)

Get The Look: Katy Perry and Becky G. at the 2014 VMA’s

2014 MTV Video Music Awards - Backstage & Audience

So what did you think of Katy Perry and Riff Raff’s homage to Britney and Justin in the all denim outfits?

Katy Perry Beauty Look by Jake Bailey:
Katy Perry’s VMA look tonight was quintessential Katy. Bright red lips, black liquid liner and big lashes. I first prepped her skin and then matched her skin tone to COVERGIRL’s Ready, Set Gorgeous Foundation in Warm Beige and began by buffing a thin layer all over her face and neck using a flat tipped, soft bristled kabuki style brush for a seamless airbrushed effect. I highlighted her under eye area and cheekbones with Ready, Set, Gorgeous Concealer in light/medium.

I began her eye makeup by blending a warm brown shadow, Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Scorching Cocoa into the crease of her eyelids and a pearlescent white shadow Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Blazing White onto her eyelid and browbone for highlights. I also dusted some of that same pearlescent shadow onto the ridge of her cheekbones for an extra glow. I then created a sharp jet black cat eye using Bombshell Intensity Liner. I finished the eye look with several coats of Bombshell Volume Mascara.

I then sculpted her cheekbones using the darker shade from the COVERGIRL’s Clean Glow Blush compact and added warmth to the apples of her cheeks with the paler peachier shades in the compact.

I completed the look by lining her lips with LipPerfection Lip Liner in Hot and the matching LipPerfection Lip Color shade in Hot 305. I topped the lipstick with a coat of Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Crystal Flame for a metallic sheen. Just before she left I dusted her with a touch of Ready, Set, Gorgeous Powder in light/medium to keep her looking fresh for the red carpet.

Becky G. Beauty Look by Sarah Uslan:
Becky G.I started with the COVERGIRL Ready, Set Gorgeous Concealer and Foundation, which has powder built-in to help fight shine. I used the concealer in a V shape under her eyes to give them a bit of a lift before putting the foundation over – adding to the flawless overall look of her skin. Then I used bronzing powder to contour her cheekbones and also on the forehead and neck area to warm her skin tone plus Classic Color Blush in Silk Roses on the apples of her cheeks. Then I set the whole look with powder.

To bring in the silver in the studs on her skirt, I used the creamy Bombshell Shine Shadow in Ice Queen. It has these reflective pigments so your eyes dazzle when the light hits your face. Then with the Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Molten Black, I created a V from the outside edge of the lash line and going into the crease and blending inward. For shadow, I used Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadows in Drama Eyes and blended that all in. To finish off the look, I used the Bombshell Intensity Liner to create a bigger-than-normal, 60’s-inspired cat eye and layered on thee coats of Clump Crusher Mascara on the top lashes and one coat on the bottom. You get a ton of volume, and you can layer it on without clumps – perfect for touch-ups throughout the night. I also used a little dab of the silver shadow on the inner corner of the eye for a pop of shimmery color there.

For lips, we wanted something with a great color payout and also lustrous vibrant shine for the carpet, so we went with Colorlicious Lip Gloss in Berrylicious. For a while, matte lips were a big trend but gloss is definitely having a moment and is back in a big way!

Another COVERGIRL product to AVOID!

COVERGIRL has done it again. After their disastrous Bombshell mascara fiasco I had planned on forgetting about how awful the stuff was. And then I tried their Felt Tip Liner – and IT TOO has let me down!

I am a HUGE liquid eyeliner person. ESPECIALLY the kind with felt tips, I find them easier to use than the ones with the brushes. When I first tried this – right out of the package, I loved it. It worked beautifully – went on smoothly, washed off easily.

The second time was not so easy. The brush got all wonky, and didn’t work properly. The third time I went to use it, I opened it up, and the top of the brush had completely separated from the bottle, and spilled black liner all over my bathroom. Check out the reviews – I’m not alone.

I don’t know COVERGIRL….. you’re not hitting the mark these days!

A COVERGIRL Bombshell WARNING….

IMG_2056

Let me start out by saying I am a HUGE fan of COVERGIRL’S mascara, for the most part. Their LashBlast mascara is pretty much the only mascara I use. Recently I was sent their new Bombshell Volume Mascara to try out. The very first time I tried it – I LOVED it. CG claims the mascara provides ‘ten times more noticeable lashes vs. bare lashes’ and I would agree.

But THEN I tried to take it off. The stuff does NOT come off, and I have some pretty serious makeup remover. First I tried washing it off with my regular foamy face wash. Didn’t come off. So I thought okay, I’ll use my oil makeup remover. STILL didn’t come off. At this point I’m getting pretty frustrated – so I turned to a cotton pad, doused with makeup remover. I rubbed and I rubbed and I rubbed, and when I looked at the cotton pad, I was SHOCKED to see several eye lashes had rubbed right off. I now have two noticeable patches where my eyelashes are missing.

When I wear mascara now, I have to push the eyelashes next to the patches over to the bare areas towards the center of my lashes. I threw that bad boy in the garbage IMMEDIATELY.

And THEN yesterday while scrolling through the Daily Mail, I found I’m not alone. A LOT of women are reporting the same problem I had, with eyelashes falling out. Read the story here.

So what does COVERGIRL have to say for themselves? They say it “wears like a waterproof” mascara, so it may be more difficult to remove. Wow, ya think? They now say that they are changing the packaging on their mascara urging women to use oil-based makeup removers when taking the product off. But I tried that – and even that doesn’t work. Not completely, anyway. CG has released a statement:

COVERGIRL values all feedback from women who use our products, and takes their input and reviews to heart. Many women have told us that they love a dramatic, dark lash look from a mascara with staying power. But, some other women have said they find mascaras like Bombshell difficult to remove. So, we’ve taken steps to more broadly communicate the need to use an oil-based remover with long-lasting mascaras. For example, there is a how-to video tutorial on our YouTube channel, and we regularly respond to questions from women who call, or contact us in social media. In addition, we are in the process of updating the Bombshell packaging to advise use of an oil-based remover. We still encourage anyone with comments or questions to reach out to COVERGIRL at 1-800-426-8374.

I write this post as a warning. Sure – the mascara looks great – but it better because you’re never going to be able to get it off!

Skip this product – it is SO not worth it!
