Kiehl’s introduces Celeb-Designed Labels to benefit Rainforest Alliance

It’s that time of year again—Earth Day, that is—and we’re proud to share Kiehl’s latest environmental initiative, a Limited Edition Label Art Series to honor Earth Day and raise funds for environmental causes.

As you know, Kiehl’s has long had a strong commitment to the environment—not only do we have an ongoing “Recycle and Be Rewarded” program in our free-standing stores, but you might remember that last year, we raised $100,000 for Waterkeeper Alliance in a charitable partnership with Adrian Grenier, Kelly Slater, Erykah Badu and Parsons The New School for Design.

This year, in a new partnership, Kiehl’s collaborates with actress Julianne Moore, musician Pharrell Williams, artist Jeff Koons and pro-surfer Malia Jones to raise funds and awareness for the Rainforest Alliance, which is dedicated to sustaining biodiversity and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.

For this initiative, each partner created a Limited Edition label for Kiehl’s Açaí Damage-Protecting Toning Mist – itself part of a skincare collection that is not only Eco Cert certified organic, but is also the FIRST SKINCARE RANGE to ever receive gold standard Cradle to Cradle certification – meaning that it is made with the least amount of waste from start to finish.

100% of net proceeds (amounting to $200,000) will be raised worldwide to benefit Rainforest Alliance with this collection. (Please note: there is a slight variation to the bottle assortment available internationally—the bottles available in the US will feature labels designed by Jeff Koons, Pharrell Williams, Malia Jones and Julianne Moore as shown above.) To support the project, celebrity photographer David LaChapelle will capture each personality in his unique style.

Each mist is $26. The collection will be available on Kiehls.com and in all Kiehl’s Since 1851 stores in April.

Jessica Simpson investigates beauty standards

Singer and sometimes actress Jessica Simpson has paid the price of beauty, and now she’s examining people’s obsession with looking good.

She made headlines last year when photos of her performing suggested she might have gained a few pounds. That sparked a national debate on TV news channels, talk shows and in print asking if Simpson was, indeed, fat.

The 29-year-old has decided to turn the tables on questions about how she looked. The result is a new show called, “Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty.” The show premiered Monday and will air weekly on VH1.

Simpson travels the globe with two friends, hair stylist Ken Paves and former assistant Cacee Cobb, to examine people’s efforts to measure up to their society’s standard of beauty.

The goal is to empower women to accept themselves and ultimately understand that no one, not even celebrities, are perfect.

Paves points out that despite the scrutiny on her weight, Simpson continued performing and doing her job.

“Imagine if the whole world is talking about you,” Paves said. “She still followed through, never stopped and nobody ever said, ‘That’s a strong girl, that’s a brave girl.’ I was disappointed.”

It wasn’t always easy, Simpson said.

“You can’t walk anywhere without thinking, ‘I wonder if they think I’m fat …. I wonder if they’ve read that story,” Simpson said. “I couldn’t help it. And I think that once I realized it wasn’t going to stop, I had to find a way to accept it, and I had to find a way to use it.”

On “Price of Beauty,” Simpson and her friends meet a woman in Thailand who burned herself permanently from bleaching her skin lighter. They talk with a former Paris model who starved herself to under 100 pounds to be thin.

Viewers witness a deeper side to Simpson than they saw on her former MTV reality show “Newlyweds” with then-husband Nick Lachey.

“I’m very vulnerable on the show. I’m very open. I don’t have anything to hide,” Simpson said. “I want people to know I am just a normal girl that faces normal issues just like everyone else.”

But the show is not all life lessons and sadness. There are lighter moments, too, when Simpson and her pals try to immerse themselves in local culture.

“In Mumbai, we drank cow urine because it detoxes you and it’s good for your skin,” Simpson said. “I puked that up like all over the place.”

Paves got a Brazilian wax when the three visited Brazil.

“I was screaming, cussing, kicking,” he said. “I was in tears, red and raw, I couldn’t walk.”

Simpson said she’s taking a break from music now to focus on the show, which she hopes will get picked up for another season. Next, she plans to start a foundation for girls to help with self-esteem.

She wants to empower young women to accept themselves and ultimately understand that no one, not even celebrities, are perfect.

“I don’t look like the girl on the cover of the magazine,” Simpson said. “I do not look like my covers. My covers! They airbrush me.”

Jessica Simpson: I don’t brush my teeth…no really!

Jessica Simpson was a busy bee in NYC yesterday, starting with a stop by The Late Show to talk about The Price of Beauty and, of course, her well-publicized love life. She was then off for a private show hosted by iheartradio, where she belted out “Who We Are,” the new song you guys feel so-so about. Jess also screened the first episode of her show, which was actually hilarious and showed her in top Newlyweds form — think happy ending jokes after a Thai massage and eating bugs and you’ll get the idea. Her BFF Ken Paves was there to show his support, and he even shared his drink with Jessica during the screening. Postperformance, Jessica took the stage for a Q&A with fans and touched again on her love life, as well as her hygiene regimen and Heidi Montag’s body image. She said:

•On being OK with her body: “I can sit here and have my stomach hang over — it’s a great thing!”

•On her oral hygiene: “I don’t brush my teeth . . . No, really! I just use Listerine. And sometimes I’ll just use my sweater.”

•On John Mayer: “In John’s case, I think he was trying to make a joke. But it wasn’t a joke — I don’t accept it. I really find it very disappointing. Those are intimate details that you don’t want the world to know. He gave away my game! I’m like the good girl, and then the bad girl sometimes! I’m like, that’s my game! Maybe in his mind he was thinking he was giving me a compliment, but . . . he wasn’t.”

Carey Mulligan, Oscars Beauty!‏

Makeup by Georgie Eisdell

“This was Carey’s first Oscars so I wanted to make sure she looked age appropriate but still embrace the glamour of the night. Carey’s dress was edgy and elegant so I wanted to keep her makeup looking fresh and youthful. I wanted to enhance the natural beauty of her skin so I used La Mer foundation lightly powdered with La Mer’s translucent powder over that. For her eyes, I used Chanel soft beige and pink shadows from their spice palette. I used MAC’s black track eye liner followed by YSL’s Faux Cils mascara in black. To finish off her eyes I sharpened up her eyebrows with Laura Mercier’s soft blonde brow powder duo. For her cheeks, I wanted to give them a pinched cheek look with Dior’s glowing color powder blush in fruit de la passion. For the finishing touch on her skin, I used Bobbi Brown bronzing powder in medium. And finally on her lips I used Dior addict lip polish 004. I used La Mer body creme on the way out the door to give her body the same glow.”

Jennifer Aniston getting into the perfume business?

Why not, every other celebrity is doing it right now!

Jennifer Aniston wants to expand her brand! A source close to the actress tells OK! Jen has been quietly working on a branded fragrance for the last 20 months. So what will the name of Jen’s signature scent be?

With launch looming, she’s still uncertain about what to call the scent. Jen “has yet to get 100 percent behind any name,” says the source, “but the one she favors is ‘Aniston.’ ”

That choice met with less than-unanimous approval. Some of the ad executives behind the perfume really disliked it. Another suggestion, “Echo,” was also rejected.

“It’s all about capturing the idea of romance and freedom at any age, but it’s hard to do that in just one word,” says the source.

The A-list actress has been the face of ad campaigns, the most recent being her partnership with smartwater.

“Jen wants to unleash some really glamorous commercials on TV,” once her perfume is named, the source says.

Can’t wait for the launch!
