Q: What’s better than makeup?

A: Free Makeup!

I was just introduced to Kristen from Free Beauty Events, a great website that helps you locate free events in your area. Check out her site and see what’s happening near you and enter to win some great prizes!

Free Beauty Events is a website dedicated to connecting people with information on free makeovers, beauty product samples, and giveaways at retail and spa locations across the country. Consumers can enter their zip code to see what’s going on in their area, and follow Free Beauty Events on Facebook and Twitter. This site also hosts a contest each month to win a beauty-product prize. A blog section with product reviews encourages interaction between those who share a love for beauty products.

This month, for example, Prestige Cosmetics will be at college bookstores in Pennsylvania and Virginia with a free basket raffle for Prestige products, as well as free makeovers. In addition, in December Coty will be promoting their holiday fragrance gift sets at Rite Aid in New York and Pennsylvania. All this information is available for FREE on a new website where spas and retailers can promote their events.

Beauty Addicts can visit and enter their zip code to find out what makeover, gift with purchase, spa open houses and sampling events are happening near their home and can sign up to follow the site on Facebook and Twitter. In addition to listing in-store makeovers, also features a blog on product reviews ( and a monthly contest

For the month of October ten winners will receive a University Medical AcneFree Sport Clear 2-Go Skin System. Consumers have until 10/31 to enter and winners will be chosen on 11/5/2010.

As Seen at Rodarte and Marc Jacobs Spring ‘11 Runway Shows

Model-favorite Colorist & Wella Professionals Color Ambassador, Laurie Foley, is renowned for her dramatic backstage transformations, and the spring ‘11 fashion week was no different. Backstage at Spring ’11 Fashion Week, Foley brought brows to a whole new level. Foley lightened arches to a bleached blonde with Wella’s Blondor Lightening Powder to complete a ‘70s glam look for intense contrast at both Marc Jacobs and Rodarte. “Bleached blonde brows have seen a few seasons of dominance in Europe and just recently made it over to the US. They make a major statement and really compliment the entire look,” commented Laurie.

More about Laurie Foley:
Laurie Foley, founder of L’Atelier de Laurie and Wella Color Ambassador, has been a professional stylist and colorist for 33 years, with a specialty in innovative and challenging hair trends. As a regular go-to for editorial photo shoots and fashion shows around the world, her international celebrity clientele continues to grow. Laurie has styled the coifs of celebrities such as Raquel Zimmerman, Vlada Roslyakova, Agyness Deyn, Carmen Kass and Erin Wasson, to name a few. Foley sees shape and color as one complete work of art and as such, has mastered both arenas to become a hair care and color mogul. Laurie was recently featured in Allure’s Directory for Hair Color.

I personally think it looks a bit scary to see someone without eyebrows. What do you think?

Bobbi Brown releases teen beauty book, site and a new palette

Whether posting pictures on Facebook, prepping for the prom or nailing the first job interview, never has it been harder for teens to embrace their beauty and stay true to themselves. Renowned makeup artist Bobbi Brown is helping young women become their most amazing selves with her fresh, new beauty bible Beauty Rules (Chronicle Books, September 2010). In Beauty Rules, Bobbi builds beauty from the inside out with tips on everything from exercise and eating right to the importance of being a great friend. And, of course, there’s plenty about getting great makeup. Plus, Hilary Duff wrote the book’s foreword.

In celebration of her new book, Bobbi designed a pretty palette of wearable eye, lip and cheek colors and launched a new site, The sites features behind the scenes photos and video footage, before and after images, and a quiz that allows users to create their own set of beauty rules, while accurately match themselves to one of the girls in the book. Plus, a great mother-daughter makeover sweeps.
