Meet the Model with a 20 inch waist.

We’ve talked super-skinny models before, but Ioana Spangenberg definitely takes the conversation to a whole ‘nother level. Check out her story–and weigh in with your thoughts–after the jump.

At 20 inches, Ioana Spangenberg’s waist is just five inches bigger than a compact disc. She was profiled in The Sun UK recently, where they shared that the 30-year-old Romanian model eats three square meals a day (including indulgences like pizza and kebabs) and simply can’t gain weight around her midsection. “I just have a small stomach,” she told the paper. “It’s a bit like having a natural gastric band — if I eat too much, I feel sick.”

She had been self-conscious about her body her entire life, but when she met her now-husband, “Jan was the first person who saw me as beautiful and encouraged me to celebrate my body. He asked me to pose in some photos for him.” He put the photos up online, and the response was good enough that it eventually propelled her into professional modeling.

Covergirl ad banned for “enhanced post-production” and “photoshopping”.

Procter & Gamble has agreed to never again run an ad for its CoverGirl mascara because it used “enhanced post-production” and “photoshopping” to make eyelashes look thicker than they were in real life. P&G agreed to the ban even though it disclosed in the ad that the image was enhanced.

The move is the latest in a series of baby steps that U.S. and international advertising regulators have taken to ban the use of Photoshop in advertising when it is misleading to consumers.
The company’s decision was described in a ruling by the National Advertising Division, the U.S. industry watchdog that imposes self-regulation on the advertising business. NAD is part of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. Its rulings are respected and followed by most advertisers because it enjoys a close relationship with the FTC, from which it has historically drawn some of its senior staff. Recalcitrant advertisers who refuse to withdraw or amend misleading ads are referred by the NAD to the FTC, which has the power to fine, sue or bring injunctions against companies.
When asked whether this was a de facto ban on Photoshop, NAD director Andrea Levine told us:
“You can’t use a photograph to demonstrate how a cosmetic will look after it is applied to a woman’s face and then – in the mice type – have a disclosure that says ‘okay, not really.’”
The ad in question was for CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara, which promised “2X more volume” on women’s lashes. After reviewing the ad, P&G agreed to yank it. (A different CoverGirl ad is shown here.) The NAD ruling said:
“… [P&G] advised NAD it has permanently discontinued all of the challenged claims and the photograph in its advertisement. NAD was particularly troubled by the photograph of the model – which serves clearly to demonstrate (i.e., let consumers see for themselves) the length and volume they can achieve when they apply the advertised mascara to their eyelashes. This picture is accompanied by a disclosure that the model’s eyelashes had been enhanced post production.”
In a footnote, the NAD said it was following the lead of its sister body in the U.K., the Advertising Standards Authority, which in July banned cosmetics ads featuring Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington because they used Photoshop. The NAD said:
“Advertising self-regulatory authorities recognize the need to avoid photoshopping in cosmetics advertisements where there is a clear exaggeration of potential product benefits.”
“… the picture of Ms. Roberts had been altered using post production techniques (in addition to professional styling, make-up, photography and the product’s inherent covering and smoothing nature which are to be expected), exaggerating what consumers could expect to achieve through product use.”
The U.K. ruling found the use of photo retouching misleading per se.

In the U.S., the FTC has has also tightened rules to hold celebrities accountable if they make claims in ads they know cannot be true.
And in France, in 2009, 50 politicians asked for health warnings to be imposed on fashion ads if they showed retouched models’ bodies.

Shakira chops off her hair!

Credit: Rodrigo Varela/WireImage.com/Twitter

What do you think?

Just in time for the holidays, Shakira debuted a new do on Twitter Tuesday. The Colombian singer, on holiday in Barcelona, popped into a salon and chopped several inches off of her hair.

According to photographers on the scene, the singer spent more than six hours inside the Jordi Ripoll salon, which opened just for her. After getting her cut — and posting a cute pic to Twitter (right) — Shakira reportedly went straight for boyfriend Gerard Pique‘s apartment.

Since Shakira has had pretty long locks for quite some time, the new style is definitely a change, but the sharp bob and fringe-y bangs — similar to Katy Perry’s new cut — are very flattering.

Jessica Simpson knows a thing or two about fashion, as she proves with her mega-profitable clothing line, The Jessica Simpson Collection. The pop-country sweetheart has taken her fashion knowledge, teaming up with sister, Ashlee, and has designed a new line for young ladies ages 1-7.

“My mother thought it would be great to combine both of our styles, both of our personalities,” Jessica revealed at a launch party their new line at Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York City.

The new range will consist of sportswear separates for tween girls and “combines Jess’s playful + feminine style with my vintage-inspired edge,” Ashlee explained via her Twitter.

Her new fashion endeavors won’t stop there! Jessica reveled in an interview with Fashionista that she will be dipping into another market very close to her heart. “We want to do baby, kids. I’m gonna do maternity.”

The singer will be joining another pregnant music giant — Beyonce — who recently revealed to Harpers Bazaar that she will be creating a line of maternity wear. Moms-to-be are about to get a whole lot more fashionable!

Simpson aims to launch the maternity line in February.

Katy Perry Debuted Her New Short ‘Do At The David Lynch Foundation’s ‘Change Begins Within’ Benefit

I love Katy’s new look! What do you think?

Katy Perry showed off her new shorter, blonder hairstyle on Saturday night at the Third Annual “Change Begins Within” Benefit Celebration presented by the David Lynch Foundation. The event was held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in Los Angeles.

Acclaimed Hollywood director David Lynch’s foundation helps raise funds to teach Trancendental Meditation, a scientifically proven stress-reducing technique, to underserved inner city students, veterans who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD), American Indians and the homeless.

Stars at this year’s event included Katy and her husband, comedian Russell Brand, Ellen Degeneres and music producer Russell Simmons.

Katy & Russell also attended the even in 2010, and perhaps next year they’ll be joined by Katy’s younger brother David Hudson, who recently recorded his first single, “A Real Man’s Life.”
