The sexy video features not only her sister, but Spanish actor Miguel Angel. It’s Migeul’s magical sunglasses that lets him see women without their clothes on. He makes his way through a party where he sees women in Penelope’s lingerie. At the end of the video he comes face to face with Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl, Irina Shayk.
“I just didn’t want to show the beautiful bodies of models,” Cruz explains in a behind-the-scenes featurette about the short film. “I wanted to tell a story that could help you connect to what the brand is about.”
Speaking about the experience with WWD recently, the actress added: “[It was] very personal and important for me, a very interesting experience. They gave me all the freedom, and I was able to tell the story I wanted to tell.”
“I used women of all shapes and sizes, as it was important for me to let women know that this brand is for everyone,” she continued. “I chose Irina, as she is such a vivacious woman, and with all the beautiful women in the campaign, I really needed someone who would keep the audience’s attention.”
The new mom — who welcomed her second child, a daughter, on July 22 — also called upon her family for help. Sister Monica, for example, who was nine months pregnant at the time the ad was filmed, makes a brief cameo in the film in a pink lace babydoll chemise from the collection.
“I got my sister a few days before she gave birth,” Cruz says. “I thought she wasn’t going to make it. But she was there, she felt fine…I had her on the set for two hours. She looked so beautiful.”
Penelope’s line will make it’s worldwide debut in stores on August 1.
