Get the Look: Reese Witherspoon at the SAG Awards

Reese Witherspoon
21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards
January 25, 2015
Look by Celebrity Makeup Artist Molly R. Stern

Celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern created a “sultry” look for Reese Witherspoon, a nominee in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role category for her performance in “Wild.”

Stern was inspired by the “smoldering beauties of film noir” and balanced “rich Bordeaux” colours on the eyes and lips with “bright and flushed skin.”

FACE: Bright, flushed and photo-ready skin

  • Stern first applied Caudalie Eau De Beaute Beauty Elixer, ($49) to invigorate Witherspoon’s skin. Next, she massaged Natura Bisse The Cure Pure Serum, ($260) to give her skin vibrancy and hydration.
  • Then, Stern applied NEW Laura Mercier Silk Crème Moisturizing Photo Edition Foundation in Cream Ivory, $48 to ensure Witherspoon’s complexion was “sheer, dewy and lustrous.”
  • Using Kjaer Weiss Cream Blush in Lovely, ($56),Stern “heated up” the apples of Witherspoon’s cheeks, giving off a “radiant glow.”

EYES: Matte, earthy look

  • For Witherspoon’s eye look, Stern opted for a “matte earthy wine all over the lids and smoked out underneath the lash line.”
  • She first created a base using Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Blaze, ($25). She then applied Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Truffle, ($24), which she described as rich brown shadow, over the base to give the eye “a depth of color.” Stern topped off the eye look with a brighter shadow – Makeup For Ever Artist Shadow – Matte Finish in Morello Cherry, ($21).
  • Next, she tightly lined Witherspoon’s upper and lower lash line using Laura Mercier Crème Eye Liner in Espresso, ($24).Lastly, Stern curled the actress’ lashes with the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, ($29), and coated her lashes twice using Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara in Black, ($25).

LIPS: Rich, Bordeaux colour

  • To complete the look, Stern used Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Cocoa, ($27) as a base and brightened and enriched the color by applying NEW Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Orchid Pink ($28, March 2015). To give an “added punch,” she applied NEW Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Vermillion Red, ($28, March 2015) to the center of the lips.
  • Finally, she topped Witherspoon’s lip look withLaura Mercier Lip Glacé in Black Cherry, ($25) to give “depth and sheen.”

You can see from my swatch below two coats gives really great coverage with Lauren B beauty polish. I love how easy this polish is to apply. I usually make a mess of my nail beds applying polish but this went on without much hassle. It dried quick and solid, I had it on for 4 days before I decided to change colors up and not even a chip.

Surviving Winter Hair Woes with Shu Uemura

shu umeura color glaze

If you hair is feeling the effects of winter and is looking dull and dry you will want to check out the new Color Lustre Brilliant Glaze line from Shu Uemura. It’s Pure decadence for winter ravaged hair. The products smell amazing and they have made my hair soft and silky without weighing it down.. Check out the different products below and my thoughts on each.

SHU UEMURA ART OF HAIR introduces a new innovation to preserve color vitality – the new COLOR LUSTRE BRILLIANT GLAZE line. True to the brand’s DNA, COLOR LUSTRE draws inspiration from painting and art restoration, applying a unique approach to hair care and color protection.

SHU UEMURA ART OF HAIR looked at how artists meticulously care for their masterpieces, often restoring a canvas by employing a varnish of oils to protect the painting against its main attacker – water. Similar to a canvas, hair has a natural protective varnish which creates a hydrophobic barrier along the fiber. However, the hair coloring process and regular washing break down this protective layer, leaving the fiber rough and causing color to fade, resulting in damaged, dry and dull strands.

With this in mind, COLOR LUSTRE is the first color-treated line specifically formulated with a powerful refining lipid that restores the hair’s natural protective varnish to limit color washout, leaving it vibrant and polished with maximum shine.

KEY INGREDIENTS:
Drawing from the brand’s oil expertise, the line is infused with refining lipid (18 MEA) to polish the hair, and reveal true vibrancy and color radiance. Additionally, COLOR LUSTRE is formulated with rare and precious ingredients to prevent oxidation and illuminate hair:

  • Goji Berry Extract: the most concentrated natural source of anti-oxidants for protecting color
  • Musk Rose Oil: rich in omega and other fatty acids to nourish the hair

Its the perfect deep conditioning treatment while I am relaxing a a warm bath and it leaves my hair so smooth and shiny.

su color lustre thermo milk

I have naturally curly, fine hair so I have to be really careful to not damage it when I use hot tools. And it really protects my hair so its still smooth and shiny even after blow drying and straightening.
