Melissa McCarthy has revealed a long struggle with finding clothes to fit her body. She says that two years ago, she was trying to find a designer to create a gown for her, and she was rejected by several big-name designers. She quickly realized the need for more plus-size designers, and took matters into her own hands!
The comedian lands the latest cover of Redbook Magazine, and inside, she opens up about her new clothing venture.
“Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers, very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people, and they all said no.
Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible. It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.
[I] always thought I would design women’s clothing, Then [I] ended up in New York thinking I was going to go to FIT [the Fashion Institute of Technology], and I started doing standup. So how A went to B, I don’t know!
I can understand Melissa’s frustration – but honestly – I’ve never been a huge fan of her clothes. I don’t know what to expect from her line – but hopefully she’ll release some cute clothes! I’m excited to see what she does!
