Week 4 Final Update:
Sorry kids I was going to write a short blurb last week but it was one of those weeks that was so crazy I was just hanging on to survive. So I can’t believe it but I finished my full 28 days yesterday! It went surprisingly fast and I am shocked with the results and how I feel now vs. the day I started.
Keep Reading to find out my total weight loss and if I would do it again..
When I started this 4 weeks ago I will admit I thought the claims of 20lbs in 28 days was just a way to sell books. That to really be able to eat all day and workout less than I was it would be impossible to lose weight. Well it is quite the opposite, and I couldn’t be more glad I was introduced to this book for a review, it has opened my eyes to a lot of things and changed my eating habits for good.
So I won’t delay any longer the part we all want to hear is so what did you really lose. In my 28 days I lost 21lbs, 2 inches off my hips, 4 inches off my waist, 2 inches from my thighs and another 1.5 from my upper arm. A total of 9.5 inches! The biggest change I notice is the definition of my muscles, where the fat has melted has revealed all the muscles I had been building but were still covered with marshmallow fluff. I can see a real difference and the best part is I look healthier and not sickly like starvation diets can end up making you look. And I could have done better I have three kids and making them meals I had a few slip ups. A bite of pita during phase two I even had a slice of pizza. But I am learning to let go of the guilt of temporary insanity and just work to be better.
Now that I am off the grid I am surprised at what I am not dying to jump back into, I have no plans to drink coffee again or add all the dairy back. Drinking the water can be a pain but I will definitely keep it up. With the dietary changes I made I feel better from the inside out. I am planning on taking a few days break and then starting the plan again on Monday the way I should have the first time. Starting mid week made it much harder. So if you are interested in checking out this amazing book here are my tips to help you though.
#1 Cut caffeine before you start the diet it will just make the transition easier
#2 Start on a Monday! Don’t be dumb and start mid week or your strictest diet days fall on the weekend no fun.
#3 Plan for the first 4 days to be rough your body is undergoing a drastic change you will be more tired and its a tough couple of days. Have a good book or movie and plan to have your evenings free to get to bed earlier until you adjust. Sleep is your best friend!
#4 Prep, prep, prep! The days I had my meals planned and ready in the fridge or freezer was way easier and took a lot of stress away.
#5 Really go for organic. It can be spendy but I have found ways to make it work in my budget stores like Trader Joe’s and Walmart have great organic choices that are usually not much more than standard produce. And it’s May take advantage of local farms produce and fruit to keep it cheap, local and chemical free.
#6 If needed (I did) just plan to make it through the first week. On day 3 my plan was to make it through the first week and quit. But it gets easier and the time flies by.
#7 Let go of the stress I love the holistic approach to diet in this book, lower stress, eat well and move. You are askign your bodies metabolism to turn from Ford Fiesta into a Lamborghini there is going to be some culture shock. But when you throw on your favorite summer outfit you will be feeling and looking like a fine tuned machine.
#8 YOU CAN DO IT. If I the queen of sweets can survive so can you one day at a time. The best part is stepping on the scale you may feel its hard but the results are worth it.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. I wholeheartedly support this book and can’t wait to do my second round to finish tuning up for summer!
Week 2 Update:
Ok week 2 down! I feel like a new person and no I am not blowing smoke up your A#$!. The first week was hard very hard the change of diet was tough but no coffee was intense. During those first few days I would have a hard time looking at people with coffee cups I wanted to smack their cup to the ground and run. (Yes I have issues) Now after finishing my second week I really do feel completely different.
Keep Reading to find out how I feel and my weight lost this week.
I have to say the biggest change this week is my overall feeling of health. Now that I have been off coffee for two weeks and have felt the results I am not sure if I will start drinking it again even when I finish my 28 days. In the last week I have noticed I stay energized all day and don’t have the afternoon slump I used to. My days have been even busier and I am up and moving before 6am until after 10pm without my old sluggish, groggy feeling. And it might be a culmination of all the changes but I am sleeping much better than before.
Last week I will admit I had a few shortfalls, I went out of town for the weekend. Because I had a long drive I let my water intake slip a bit and even had a dinner that was off plan. It wasn’t as tough as I thought to stay on plan even while driving 300 miles but I did realize how easy it is to get cocky and slip up.
Now that I am on my third week I am going to make sure I stay on plan eat all my food at the right time and drink all my water. After a rough first week I am happy to say if you can make it to the second week it definitely gets easier. After a dramatic weight loss last week I knew this week would not be as big but I still lost 4lbs bringing my total lost to 14lbs in two weeks. I am starting to see the changes in my body and I can definitely feel them. Can’t wait to see how the next week goes!
Week 1 Update:
I am on the last day of my first week and I have to say it has not been easy road. I started my plan last Wednesday, saying good bye to coffee, sugar, dairy and alcohol for the next 28 days.
Phase 1, as I started to plan I loved that I could have sprouted grain toast, smoothies and lots of fruit it was a yummy phase. But the lack of caffeine and abrupt change in my eating left me pretty exhausted. And even with all the fruit and grains I really missed dairy and healthy fats.
Phase 2, is two days of Protein and Veggies no fats, grains or fruits. If you have a sweet tooth and love carbs like myself this is a very tough two days. Struggling to get over the exhaustion from no caffeine and missing a lot of foods. My picky appetite doesn’t account for many choices on this phase so it was just about surviving. This was definitely the phase I wanted to just quit, at the end of the first day on
Phase 2 my goal became to just survive one week of the diet.
Phase 3, was three days of healthy fats, fruit, grains, protein, and veggies. Toast with almond butter and blueberries? Yes please. Phase 3 is definitely a reward for making it through phase 2 and you can enjoy the fact you get to stay there for three days. This is definitely the easiest phase getting almond butter and avocados… yum I am back to life. With so many options it is fun to cook and I look forward to my meals and snacks.
Overall changes, you have to drink A LOT of water on this diet half of your body weight in ounces to be exact. There is a definite transition with adding that much water, it brings meaning to the phrase ” I have to pee like race horse”. So expect a little transition as your body gets used to more water.
Results: In the first week I have lost 10lbs! Its shocking but makes the dark days of Phase 2 not seem quiet so harsh. And I am feeling better and managing without coffee or diary. I did make mistakes along the way, in desperation I would take a tiny bite of an English muffin or sneak a few Cheerios. Making my kids meals was one of the hardest when I was living on chicken and veggies, my kids bowl of cheerios and milk looked good enough to trade my right arm for. When I gave in a tried a bite of dessert or ate a cracker I moved on and didn’t beat myself up but tried to do better. I know I can be an emotional eater and this diet has highlighted when I would normally have been eating out of exhaustion, stress or a bad day. I am trying to use those points of craving to think do I really want that food and I hungry for it or is it just an emotional feeling I am trying to feed. For now I am enjoying my last day on Phase 3 and interested to see if week 2 will seem a bit easier. Wish me luck!
I will be following The Fast Metabolism Diet for the next 28 days as part of a review with SheSpeaks. So far I have really enjoyed the book, Hailey takes the time to explain how the foods we do or don’t eat effect our bodies functions and more importantly our metabolism. I am wary of diet books that make big claims or want you to restrict lots of food groups. What I like about Haylie Pomroy’s book is how she focuses on real food that is easy and affordable.
The 28 days is not a huge chunk of time and I am excited to see how well the program works. Today is my first day on it and so far the food options are great but giving up coffee has been a bear. I want to really follow the plan to the letter so I can give you my honest take on how well it works. So no dairy, alcohol or caffeine for this girl for 28 days. I am interested to see how my body feels once I am well under way. I will keep you up to date on my journey, here’s to getting healthy and burning some fat before summer!
