Uma Thurman has a makeup malfunction!

It seems whoever touched up Uma Thurman’s make-up when she was guest speaker at The Feminist Press at the City University of New York’s 40th annual gala last night was a little overzealous.

The actress appeared with obvious patches of white face powder on her nose, under her eyes and around her forehead.

5 Things Your Hair Stylist Won’t Tell You

Cosmopolitan leaks 5 secrets your hair stylist won’t tell you.

When a hair dresser can magically transform our hair from frizzy to fabulous in under an hour, we’re pretty prone to listen to whatever they say. But what are they not saying? We had hair experts tell us the top five need-to-know tips that your hair stylist isn’t telling you.

1. You don’t need to get highlights every time you get your hair done.
The reality is if your hair has been highlighted every time its been colored, the chances of overlapping and over processing are greater than not. Try breaking your base instead of highlights when it’s time for your color touch ups. That way, you’ll give your hair a small break while saving money and looking color fresh.

2. Skipping conditioning treatments at the salon is totally fine.
Conditioning treatments aren’t bad, especially on damaged hair, however, over conditioning with expensive treatments can sometimes leave you with a big bill at check out time. Try requesting the moisturizing conditioners that are complimentary with your shampoo and ask to be sit under the dryer for 5 to 10 minutes. Compare to see if there’s a real difference in the way your hair feels after.

3. It’s OK to mix expensive and cheapo products.
Just because you love a high-end shampoo with a double-digit price tag doesn’t mean you have to use the same brand of conditioner, hairspray, serum, etc. Your stylist might try to push the whole line on you, saying they work best together, but it’s totally fine to save cash by splurging on one haircare item and hitting the drugstore for the rest.

4. Your hair won’t grow faster if you trim it.
But the truth is your hair won’t look as good as you’re growing it out if you let too much time lapse between cuts. So just be sure to tell your stylist you want it to grow longer — that way she can trim only a little bit to keep it healthy, but she’ll know to preserve as much of the length as possible.

5. You don’t have to shampoo your hair every day if it’s curly or wavy.
The “wash and wear” haircut and the daily shampoo are really only needed if you have really fine hair. If your hair is wavy or curly, it tends to be a little drier, so you really shouldn’t shampoo every day.

Rachel McAdams looks stunning on the cover of InStyle!

I love Rachel McAdams. I first fell in love with her when she starred opposite Ryan Gosling in The Notebook. She went on to star in some of my favorite films, Wedding Crashers, The Family Stone, State of Play, The Time Traveler’s Wife and Sherlock Holmes to name a few. I can’t wait to see her new film, Morning Glory, opposite Harrison Ford.

How does the 32-year-old Canadian stay so beautiful? Well, here are some of her secrets!

According to Beauty Assist, Rachel drinks maple syrup to help her keep thin. It also helps that she runs around when she’s hyper to burn off calories.

According to Glamour, for her appearance at the Comic Con International convention, makeup artist Troy Jensen combined two colors from the brand for a beautiful red-fuchsia shade: Palladium and Limelight. The Palladium shade has a maroon and fuchsia hue. The Limelight has a slight mixture of red, pink and coral. The combination proved to be a hit with the crowd.

Rachel McAdams wowed her fans by looking beautiful as ever at the Comic Con International convention. For stunning eyes that pop like Rachel’s, try blending a white highlighter on your entire eyelid. Then shade the crease of your eyelid using a sand colored eye shadow. Finish it off by curling and coating your eyelashes with black mascara. Be sure to visit his blog for a detailed entry on all his beauty tricks he used for Rachel during the convention, including a description of how he created her glowing complexion.

9 Ways to Outsmart Breast Cancer

Here’s the good news about breast cancer: No matter what age you are now, or what generation you belong to, it’s not too early, or too late, to take steps to avoid the disease. And recent research has given you more ways — and more effective ones — to do just that.  Here are 9 ways to outsmart breast cancer, from Good Housekeeping.

1. Watch Out for Weight Creep

If you could still fit into your high school prom dress (with Spanx, if necessary), you’re in good shape in more ways than one. Women who have gained between 21 and 30 pounds since age 18 have a 40 percent increased risk of breast cancer compared with those who have put on five or fewer pounds, an American Cancer Society (ACS) study found for non-HRT users. Interestingly, this was true even if the low-gainers weren’t at a perfect weight when they were young. That’s because a rise in overall body fat is tied to an increase in circulating insulin and estrogen levels — both of which are linked to breast cancer risk. No way your prom dress would fit today? “Taking off just 5 to 10 percent of your body weight can make a difference,” says the ACS’s Colleen Doyle, M.S., R.D. If you weigh 160, that’s only eight to 16 pounds.

2. Embrace Cauliflower

You wouldn’t think that the benefits of fruits and veggies would be in question, but…While experts agree that eating loads of produce is good for your overall health, when it comes to specific protection against breast cancer, evidence has been shakier. Recent research, however, does seem to show that adopting a pattern of eating that includes lots of fruits and vegetables is beneficial. When Colorado State University scientists took a second look at the famed Singapore study — the research that initially pointed to the pluses of an Asian-style diet — they found that even among Chinese women, those who ate a more “vegetable-fruit-soy” diet had a lower risk of breast cancer than women whose plates contained less of these. The vegetables that seemed to do the most good: the cabbage family — cabbage itself, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and kale.

3. Back Away from the Bar

No one’s advocating a return to Prohibition, but the reality is that the more alcohol you consume, the greater your odds of getting breast cancer — possibly because it raises estrogen levels. “I tell my patients that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a glass of wine at a party, but you do need to consider that your risk increases with every drink you have,” says cancer prevention and detection specialist Therese Bevers, M.D., of the MD Anderson Cancer Center. The consensus among health groups: Limit consumption to one drink or less per day.
