Make Her Up Reviews Chris Rock’s “Good Hair”

good_hair_chris_rock.bmp

Erin and I had the pleasure of attending a screening of Chris Rock’s new documentary Good Hair on Friday, and we absolutely loved it.

The documentary starts off with Chris’s two beautiful daughters, and was shocked to hear his youngest ask him “daddy, why don’t I have good hair?” And so began an exploration into the billion dollar enterprise of “good hair”. I literally had NO IDEA this world even existed, let alone to what extent.

Chris delves into why thousands of women feel the need to have “good hair”. Why they will spend thousands of dollars on a weave, or inflict injury upon themselves with the toxic “relaxer”. Why men can’t even begin to think of touching their wives head, and why they would spend more on their wife’s hair – than their own mortgage payment. It’s unflinching and moving.

Chris jetted from Los Angeles to Atlanta – and even India to find out how important good hair really is. The most poignant part of the documentary, for me, was when Chris traveled to India, where one of their top exports is human hair. It was difficult to watch as women have their heads shaved in a religious ceremony, only to have the church turn around and sell the hair for a profit. This particular ritual makes this church the most profitable – second only to the Vatican. It was really unbelievable to watch.

Chris sets off to talk to hair professionals, stylists, actresses and singers to get to the root of the pursuit of good hair. The documentary was eye-opening to say the least. Chris proved to be a masterful host, bringing humor – and sometimes the sad truth to the what some women will do for a good head of hair.

It’s no wonder this documentary won the Jury Prize Award at the Sundance Film Festival. It really is a gem.

Bottom line? I loved it. Chris Rock does a perfect job of exploring the topic completely – while keeping us laughing the whole time.

Good Hair opens near you this Friday on October 23rd.

Belli was kind enough to send me one of their All Day Moisture Body Lotions to try and I am really enjoying it.

One of my favorite features of this lotion is the essential oils it contains. The most prevalent scent is Lemon Oil which smells just delicious and helps perk me up.  Lemon oil also has the therapeutic quality of calming upset stomachs which any pregnant girl can tell you happen all too often. There is also a lighter note of Chamomile that helps comfort and calm.  A great lotion to help ease a least a few of the pains of pregnancy.

Beat those Bumpy Winter Beauty Blues

screenshot006.jpg

I was sent a sample of PFB Vanish to try and I really like it. I wasn’t sure if it would burn or feel uncomfortable but there was no irritation at all and it left my skin super smooth. After shaving  or waxing you simply roll it onto your skin and your skin is left smooth and irritation free.

SILKY SMOOTH LEGS UNDER FALL’S HOTTEST FASHIONS

So very rock and roll, the latest latex leggings by David Lerner are a sexy alternative to the basic black legging. With their leather looking style, a low waist and a sexy fit, these 86% Nylon, 14% Spandex leggings have been added to many a wish list on Shopstyle.com. They also wreak havoc on the freshly shaven thighs and waxed bikini line.

Tight clothes, like leggings, can cause ingrown hair problems. The logical explanation, tight clothing, like leggings compress your hair against your body most of the time, and the chances of getting an ingrown hair increase This is especially true if you happen to be post bikini wax. Squeezing upper thighs and bikini area with a tight pair of leggings or skinny jeans could result in a very uncomfortable situation and even unhealthy infection.

An ingrown hair is a hair that curls back on itself and starts growing back into the follicle, or a hair that fails to grow out of the follicle and stays embedded in the skin. Ingrown hairs are usually just minor irritations, but they can be painful and unsightly. What’s more, if they are left untreated ingrown hairs can become infected. Unfortunately, almost everybody will get one at some time, and if you shave regularly, you may have to deal with ingrown hairs quite frequently.

Here’s where PFB Vanish comes to the rescue and keeps legs at their smoothest through fall and winters hottest and tightest fashions. PFB Vanish™ is a gentle, cosmetically elegant roll-on gel, formulated for ingrown hairs, burn and bumps from shaving, waxing, tweezing, electrolysis, and laser hair removal. PFB Vanish has three key exfoliating ingredients – salicylic, glycolic and lactic acids, and moisturizing and soothing ingredients like willow bark and camphor oil. PFB Vanish is safe to use every day and is available in a travel-friendly 2 ounce size for $15.00 and 4 ounces for $21.00. pfbvanish.com

Borghese Nail Lacquer

borghese.jpgscreenshot005.jpg

I was just sent some Borghese nail polish to try, and while I am familiar with their skincare products I had yet to try the nail care line. Well first thing I noticed was the difference in the dual tip brush, it seems to hold the perfect amount of polish. Whenever I do my nails I seem to have too much on the brush even if I try to dab some off.

On top of a great brush the colors are brilliant and look great.  My two favorite colors so far are Notte Black and Chianti Wine. If you are looking for a great new nail polish,  give  Borghese a try.

Kristen Stewart in November’s Allure Magazine

Her eye makeup looks amazing!

On her nonchalance about Hollywood glamour, Stewart said, “I go outside, and I’m wearing a funky T-shirt and my hair is dirty, and people say, ‘What’s wrong with her? She needs to invest in a hairbrush.’ I’m like, Don’t you get it? I’m not that girl! I never was that girl. It’s not like I was really clean-cut last year.”
