Golden Globes Red Carpet Recap: Anne Hathaway

anne_hathaway_arrives_at_the_66th_annual_golden_globe_awards-03_122_658lo1.jpg

Celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee created the gorgeous look for Lancôme ambassador Anne Hathaway. Anne looked statuesque in a beautiful navy Armani Privé gown that complimented her alabaster skin tone. Kate wanted to create a classic beauty look, so she chose to focus on the eyes and lips.

She applied a dark liner to the base of the lashes and used a small brush to blend a dark eye shadow from the lash line upwards. Chanel Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Slate was applied to the crease and along the lower lash line.Next, she curled the lashes with a Shu Uemura eyelash curler and applied several layers of Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir. For the brows, Kate used Lancôme Le Crayon Poudre in Brunet which was perfect to gently add depth and definition to Anne’s brows. Lancôme Effacernes Concealer in Ivoire was applied under the eyes.

Kate sculpted the cheekbones with Chanel Powder Blush in Nude and then applied Lancôme Absolue Powder in Absolute Peche to the top of the cheek bones and along the jaw and clavicle. The lips were a dark raspberry stain. To achieve this, she used a neutral lip liner that matched the color of Anne’s natural lip shade and then applied Chanel Hydrabase Lipstick in Lotus Rouge and blended so here were no hard lines of color. Finally, Chanel Poudre Cristalline was applied to take away the shine from the forehead, nose and chin. A quick spritz of Lancôme Magnifique and Anne was out the door!

Golden Globes Red Carpet Recap: Angelina Jolie’s Hair by David Babaii

angelina_jolie_arrives_at_the_66th_annual_golden_globe_awards-01_122_1027lo1.jpg

Angelina Jolie: 2009 Golden Globe Awards

Inspiration: Light, airy and natural

Celebrity hairstylist David Babaii accomplished this look with three simple tools: a blow dryer, round brush and the his signature Bohemian Beach Spray.

After blow drying her hair with his David Babaii for WildAid Blow Dryer and a round brush, David took large sections twisting the ends around the brush and spraying each with his Bohemian Beach Spray. Using the dryer’s low speed, he gave each section a blast of warm air to set. After cooling, the section was gently unwrapped from the brush and additional Bohemian Beach Spray was scrunched in to give volume and lift. The result is a look that is not over done or un-natural and is easy to achieve at home!

New product review! Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion!

p4050_hero.jpg

On this same trip to Sephora, I also needed to pick up a new face lotion.  I hate trying to find a good face lotion.  I think my face is a snob, because the only ones that seem to work for me, cost $30 or more.  When I ran out of my absolute favorite face lotion, N.V. Perricone’s Firming Moisturizer ($280!) I had to turn to other options.  I would never spend $280 on face lotion, by the way. It was sent to me back in April, and I’ve been slowly using it…trying to save every last drop.  But alas – I got to the bottom, and it’s gone.  May it rest in peace.

Moment of silence.

Anyway, so the only other face lotion I had at home was Aveda’s Hydrating Lotion.  It’s supposed to be quick-absorbing…but it’s not.  (At least not on my skin).  Within a week, I had a mini break-out, and that hasn’t happened to me in ages.  I had to quit using it – and I banished it back to under the sink (until I run out of my next face lotion).

While trying to find the perfect face lotion – I found myself standing in front of Murad’s products.   I was trying to hurry – because I brought my boys with me, and they were running around Sephora screaming “Ew! You can see her boob!” (Don’t know if you’ve ever noticed, but they have pictures of half-naked women all over the place.  I had never noticed before, but leave it to my 8 and 6 year old boys to point it out to me.)  Anyway, back to my point.  I’m quickly trying to pick a face lotion (by now the boys are running around sticking their fingers into all the samples), and I grab Murad’s Skin Perfecting Lotion.  I ask the Sephora saleswoman if it’s a good lotion, she says yes, and I immediately pay for it – and head home.

I love this lotion for two reasons.  First – because you only need a teeeeenie tiny amount to cover your face.  Should last me quite some time.  Second of all – and most important, it dries completely – leaving my skin feeling hydrated and not the slightest bit greasy.  It absorbs completely leaving my skin soft as a baby’s butt.

Every type of skin needs hydration, even blemish-prone and oily skin. This ultra light, oil-free moisturizer leaves skin perfectly hydrated every day without any residue. Skin is soothed, softened, renewed, and protected with algae extract, panthenol, retinol, and our exclusive AHA/BHA complex with powerful antioxidants.

New product review! L’Occitane Rice Foaming Cleanser.

loccitane_rice_foaming_cleanser.jpg

I’ve been broke forever, and haven’t been able to buy any new skincare products.  Usually I am sent more than enough products to keep my skin in tip-top shape, but I haven’t seen any in some time!  So I had to break down and go to Sephora and look for an inexpensive face wash.  I looked through the major brands, and they were all out of my price range.  I headed over to L’Occitane to get a sample of the hand lotion (something I do everytime I go to Sephora) and I noticed they had a foaming cleanser for only $18.00!  I grabbed it up, and headed over to face lotions (will review that one next).

What I love about this cleanser is how little you need for each wash.  It takes only one pump of cleanser to get enough foam to wash your whole face.  It foams up beautifully, and washes away any makeup.  I love it. I’ll probably use this again next time.  Being soap-free, it’s gentle enough for sensitive skin, and it has made my skin very happy.

Rice Foaming Cleanser by L’Occitane is a soap-free cleanser enriched with rice.

L’Occitane Rice Foaming Rice Cleanser
transforms into an ultra-light foam on contact with water and eliminates makeup, impurities, and excess oil. Skin is left perfectly clean, incredibly soft, clear, and pure.

The soap-free cleanser is enriched with rebalancing zinc and red rice extract from France, as well as astringent red rice vinegar.

New! fresh ground makeup from Elizabeth Arden.

pelizarden1-5575627v250.jpg

I love Elizabeth Arden’s new Pure Finish Mineral powder makeup! I have tried a lot of mineral powder makeups and they all ended up settling in my pores and it’s simply not pretty. I was skeptical to try another mineral makeup but I was intrigued by the grinder.

I was surprised how great the grinder is, it lets you grind out the perfect amount and keeps your compact from becoming a powdery mess.  Even better it never settled in my pores I was able to build the perfect shade on my skin with the puff and it left a flawless finish.
