Go Red For Women!

Valentine’s Day is long gone but there is an even better reason to celebrate hearts in February, Go Red for Women led by the American Heart Association. Go Red For Women celebrates the energy, passion and power we have as women to band together to wipe out heart disease and stroke. Because heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in women (and men) in the U.S.; heart disease affects us all, and the only way we can prevent it is through educating ourselves and each other.

Today, our near-term goal is nothing less than a 25% reduction in coronary heart disease and stroke risk by the year 2010.

As we work toward that goal, we’re working hard to change the perception that heart disease is a “man’s disease.” And it’s working! By teaching more and more women how to talk to their doctors about heart disease, we can save thousands of lives every year. Because the good news is that heart disease is often preventable!

And in case anyone still believes that heart disease is only a concern for older women, we encourage you to read the Inspiring Stories we’ve collected. Together, they make the case plain and simple: the time for action is now!

Check out the Go Red for Women website to find simple recipes and heart healthy activities to take action and be a part of the movement to a 25% reduction in Women’s heart disease. You can register for free and participate in heart health checkups, donations and more.

If you would like to shop for a cause they have a limited edition Go Red For Women fragrance.

I just came across your blog – what a great idea (and great topics). I created a company in memory of my 28 year old sister that died from breast cancer last year that supports giving back through shopping. Uptown Liz (www.uptownliz.com) promotes products from companies whose proceeds directly give back to charitable organizations. We have beauty products, clothing, housewares and much more. Thank you for doing your part to promote making a difference to those who are less fortunate.
